Is he always this funny, or only on days when he's wanted for murder?

[c] [/c]

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed advertisements, the Sunday of the week of release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website or perhaps in their ads...but it COULD still be in-stores!

$_"LP" means the advertisement says "Low Price", and $_"HP" means the advertisement says "Hot Price". Use of either of these in the Roundup grid indicates that I could not locate a definate price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I only include the titles I feel like including. In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. I have a lovely wife and a five-year-old son I'd rather spend time with. Please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like I do!

Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

* Note that Ghost Ship is a Friday, March 28th release date.

* BE CAREFUL! Ghost Ship and Jackass: the Movie are available in both Widescreen and Fullscreen versions...get the correct one.

* Non-OAR discs are, as usual, entirely left off the Roundup. Example: Troop Beverly Hills, dammit. Yellow Hair and the Fortress of Gold *seems* to be widescreen, so I'm putting it on the Roundup.

* I have seen various places that state the release date for the 12-disc Charlie Chaplin Collection was last week (3/18), but most others state this week (3/25). Whichever one is correct, I didn't list this release on last week's Roundup, so here it is. By the same token, I've seen release dates for Lord of the G-Strings: Femaleship of the String that are as much as a month after this week. Well, I'm including it now. Why include it at all? Hey, if I can put Jackass on this Roundup, this is just as worthy...for the camp factor if nothing else.

* Titles of the "unrated" variety, like Lord of the G-Strings: Femaleship of the String, Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy, & Killing Me Softly may be hard to find at your standard retailer. But go ahead and give Borders a try, where you can find their prices for these at $14.99 ,$19.99, and $23.99 respectively.

* Target's "Low Price" for Who Framed Roger Rabbit - Vista Series is looking like $15.99!! :D

* Target will give you a free 6-Pack of Act II popcorn when you purchase Maid In Manhattan. "See DVD for details." It also looks like it might be $15.99, but take that with a grain of salt.

* Circuit City will take $3 off Maid In Manhattan if you purchase the film's soundtrack at the same time.

* Best Buy will give purchasers of Jackass: The Movie a free "Jackass" wristband, plus they will take $5 off your total if you also purchase either The Osbournes: Season 1 or 8 Mile on the same transaction.

* Best Buy also has a deal to get both Maid In Manhattan and The Wedding Planner for $20 if purchased together.

* AND, Best Buy will take $5 off the price of Who Framed Roger Rabbit when you also buy on the same receipt any other DVD from their "Disney" section. So take advantage of these deals while you can.

* Finally, eat your Wheaties. Be on the lookout for this Wheaties-with-an-NBA-DVD deal coming soon to a grocery store near you. This is the latest in a series of Cereal-with-DVDs promotion, and it looks like this will be more and more widespread. Thanks to "Buffalo Bill" for the information!

The latest markdowns according to VideoTropics web site (DVD Title/Old SRP/New SRP):
-------------------------
• Best of the Muppet Show: Elton John $24.95 $19.95
• Best of the Muppet Show: Mark Hamill $24.95 $19.95

The latest markdowns according to DavisDVD (there may be some duplication of above, but read through it anyway):
-------------------------
None

The latest markdowns according to misc. other sources. I haven't verified these, so take them with a grain of salt, please...some of these may not belong on this list (New SRP/DVD Title):
-------------------------
$14.95 Communion (Special Collector's Edition)
$14.95 Daydream Believers - The Monkees Story

For those who belong to BJs, if you don't usually look at the "magazine" worth of coupons from BJs that you get in the mail, you should do so. There is a $3 off Roger Rabbit coupon for use at BJs.

So was it ever decided if Roger Rabit would be the theatrical cut or the edited version?
My understanding of the situation (and pertains to both the fullscreen and widescreen versions, both of which are in the same 2-disc package):
• About the scene where Jessica Rabbit is thrown from the vehicle and between her spread legs the color of her panties is seen to be the same color as the flesh of her legs, leading to charges that she was drawn naked? Per the original intent of the feature's creators, the panties have been color-corrected to be the same color as her dress.
• About the scene (which I don't recall myself) where allegedly Betty Boops bosoms "pop out" for a second? Since that was also outside the original intent of the feature's creators (the artists involved having long ago admitted to independantly slipping that change in), I have no quarrel with the fact that the two frames of this were removed from this version on the DVD.
• About the earlier scene where Baby Hermann is stalking off the set and walks between the girl's legs, and hold up his fist and extends a finger to "goose" her? The extended finger has been digitally removed. Otherwise, the scene is as orginally shown, with the arm held up while he goes between her legs. Just no finger...a subtle adjustment to make the feature more "family friendly". This is the change I have the most quarrel with, since the creators intended for this scene to be in the film.
• HOWEVER, the "extended finger" scene IS intact on the DVD. Apparently the list of supplements does not mention a trailer for this film to be in the set. But, there are several reports of an easter egg on the first disc, which contains the theatrical trailer in its entirety. No, I don't know how to get to it, although I've heard it's "easy" to find. Supposedly, it has the entire "extended finger" scene..completely intact!

Judgement: Disney and Amblin' have to be between a rock and a hard place with this release. They know the die-hards (that's us) want the Original Theatrical Release - no edits or changes. They also know that the many, many folks in the "family friendly" category would demand that these changes be made. I think that they have made the best compromises they can, under the circumstances.

I will be purchasing this release.

Well I would get Futurama...but I already got it eariler this week. :D So now it just leaves CSI (probably sometime next month or so) and Roger Rabbit (later this week). Thanks again David for the roundup.

Great roundup, Dave! The one title coming out this week that I was sure wouldn't be on here (PS:TLORJ), you actually listed! I'm just trying to decide if I want to look for it at Borders, or order it from DDD and wait for it (only 14.37 at DDD). Other than that, Roger Rabbit is a must for me this week. If BB has any Disney's we need for a decent price, then I'll get it there. Otherwise, it's looking like I'll be going to Target for that.

Anyone know what BJ's pre-coupon price is? Will the coupon make it worthwhile compared to other B&M's?
