I was planning on getting Saw II until I read about them messing with the aspect ratio (changing it from 1.85:1 to 1.78:1). Now I'm not even going to bother renting it as I don't want to show any support at all for this practice.

Hopefully they won't do this to the eventual Saw II Unrated Director's Cut. Note that I have no knowledge of a double-dip, but they did it with the first movie so I expect them to do it with this one.

How is that any different than if you watch it on an HDTV? Not that your not entitled to your opinion but I don't understand how this is an issue or why The Digital Bits even bothered to make a story blurb out of it.

By that logic, I shouldn't watch any movie that's shot at 1.85 because it fits my HDTV at 1.77.

brenda what is disrespectful about it?

Those who are against that image instead of just saying "thats porn" "thats disrepectful" maybe you could actually offer a full thought process on it so we know what you are thinking. please elaborate

As always, thanks Mike & Patrick. This week, it'll be S3 of Fresh Prince and I have to pick up Collision Course as a blind buy just for the cheese factor. For under $10 at DDD, it's worth it. Didn't even realize t was out this week until I saw the Roundup.

Thanks Mike and Patrick! Looks like Grey's Anatomy: Season One for me. And, I may finally break down and double-dip on John Carpenter's The Thing for $7.50.

--I think its worth noting that Target is advertising a price of $17.99 on the Audrey Hepburn Collection (Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Sabrina & Roman Holiday).

I'm curious about low price for 3 DVDs means the older disc of Breakfast At Tiffany's is in the Box edition instead of new remastered edition? Also is this the first boxset of Audrey Hepburn films released.

This makes no sense if you are a fan of watching movies in their original aspect ratios. You do realize that a 1.85 movie will (or should, depending on how your TV is setup) display small black bars along the top and bottom on your 16:9 TV right?

Thanks for the heads up on Metropolitan, Mike. I was giving up on seeing one of my favorite films on dvd (or anywhere else).

Oddly, I hadn't thought about this movie for quite a long time and it crept into my thoughts today. Spooky how this worked out.

Also surprised that it's so expensive. Don't believe I've ever purchased Criterion before, so I guess I'll discover whether the brand is worth the premium.

Anyone else interested in this film and where else can you pick it up for less than near/full sticker?

Brian L D, do you happen to have a link to a website with some screen captures of how a picture is modified from 1.85:1 to 1.78:1? I know that there would be very little picture lost, but I think it'd be neat to see some examples of what exactly we should expect with this aspect ratio change.

I think someone posted a link to a page with the differences between 1.37:1 and 1.33:1 and it had a 1.85:1 and 1.78:1 comparison.

Thanks for the link, TonyD.

Looks like there isn't much of a difference between 1.78 and 1.85. Still, I don't know why the studios don't just leave 1.85 films at 1.85. The overscan will eliminate any black bars.

Anyway, probably just He-Man this week for me. :)

OK, let's say that I'm wrong about Saw II and leave it out of the discussion. What about movies that are shot at 2.35 (and the case states the AR to be 2.35) but the actual framing on the disc is more like 2.32 or 2.27? Shouldn't you boycott those titles too?
