The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

RoundUppers:

It looks like I am going to need to make a change in the way I compose each week's WRU.

Best Buy has re-designed its web-site (IMO it is now a hot mess). Each week I have posted the prices from Best Buy's Sunday flyer in the price grid. And those titles I have selected which are not included in their flyer I have taken from bestbuy.com.

However, this re-design makes it extremely difficult to research the Best Buy prices for those titles.

In the past it was an option to filter upcoming new releases by the week in which they were released. This is also available on Amazon. It is a convenient way to group together any week's new releases for pricing purposes.

In the absence of any way to effectively do that for Best Buy, I will be forced to drop the non-flyer Best Buy prices each week...making the BB column similar to Target.

The amount of effort I had to put in to gather this week's Best Buy prices proved it time-prohibitive for me.

Maybe someone here knows a better way or an alternative?

Anyway...that's where I am on this.

Happy end to Daylight Savings time!

I don't have a better way for you, Mike. And we can all look up those non-flyer prices on our own or check in store and report back.

At any rate, the prices for Mickey's Christmas Carol and A Very Merry Pooh Year are kinda crappy. Wait...very crappy. But I have them both on preorder anyway. I've always liked Mickey's CC; I may need to pick up another copy for my sister for Christmas.

Lots of stuff made it into the Netflix queue this week: White House Down, The Best Years of Our Lives and Parkland.

Best Buy doesn't even want to sell media anymore, which is convenient after they helped put stores like Virgin and Tower out of business.

What marketing genius decided to use the exact same poster for both The Lone Ranger and White House Down?

Will pick up the extended Hobbit 3-D this week and wait for a sale on the James Dean set. I was going to get the UK version but fear the DVD's included with it are region locked.

Is it me or are new releases getting a bit more expensive lately?
It's not just you, Todd. It seems that way to me, as well. I am pre-ordering less and less, and instead waiting for later price drops. I have quite a list of films I am still waiting to drop in price -- I can be very patient.

I did pre-order The Best Years of Our Lives and The Right Stuff this week, since they are both favorites of mine and the prices were not too high. The only reason I pre-ordered The James Dean Collection was because of the great price at Amazon.uk -- there was no way I was paying the current U.S. release prices.

Thanks for the RoundUp, Mike. The Best Years of Our Lives, The Right Stuff, and The Bishop's Wife for me. I also preordered the James Dean UK set.

I am slated to review The Three Faces of Eve but the disc has not yet arrived.

I did already review Girl Most Likely. That review can be found here.

I'll be picking up Mad Men: Season Six and maybe The Hobbit this week.

Thanks for the prices, Mike! :)

As for prices getting higher, Blu-ray/DVD sales are slowly dying out and deals on them aren't drawing people into stores any more so what reason is there for stores to heavily discount them? It sucks but it's just reality.

Does anybody know anything about the new Farscape Blu-ray release?I own the first Blu-ray set which was comprised of upconverted transfers from PAL broadcast masters. The set is actually pretty good given the source; but I would consider re-purchasing if the new set has better source material. (Even if it's for just the fourth season.)

I've got The Best Years of Our Lives and The Bishop's Wife both expected to arrive tomorrow.

I will wait for a major price drop on White House Down. I watched Olympus Has Fallen a few weeks ago and even though both films were widely panned by the critics, I found myself enjoying Olympus Has Fallen a great deal. I'm hoping for the same with White House Down.

I've got the previous Blu release of Elf. Does anyone know if there is anything new here? I can't see myself buying it again as much as I enjoy the film.

Just The Hobbit AUJ EE for me this week. Will wait on a price drop to pick up Mad Men Season 6 (and will probably pick up season 5 at that time).

Sounds like BB finally came up with a new post-coupon-era way to mess with you.

Amazon has just price-matched Best Buy at $29.99 for the 3D extended-version of The Hobbit. And of course I just ordered it. Normally $30 is way out of my price range but for a 5-disc 3D set, I don't think there will be a better deal on this title for a long, long time.
