(admin note - additional non-"new release" deals here)

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed advertisements, the Sunday of the week of release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website or perhaps in their ads...but it COULD still be in-stores!

$_"LP" means the advertisement says "Low Price", and $_"HP" means the advertisement says "Hot Price". Use of either of these in the Roundup grid indicates that I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I only include the titles I feel like including (or the ones Dave tells me he's looking for ;o)). In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. So, please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like Dave & I do!

Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii. Also note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the standard Roundup: they set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is not a way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. When it comes to Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices mentioned at all, just remember that "Your Mileage May Vary".

**BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL! Chronicles of Riddick is available in both OAR and MAR versions AND differently-rated versions...get the correct one. That means 3 different versions in one release: Widescreen/Not Rated, Widescreen/PG-13, and Pan-and-Scan/PG-13.

--Amazon is still featuring free shipping on orders over $25. Restrictions apply.

--Look in your Sunday papers for a three-page spread advertising a $5 off coupon for Elf! To get the savings, you need to buy any three Unilever brands featured in the ads. There will be an “instant coupon” on specially-marked Elf DVDs. Coupon expires 12/31/04. Meanwhile, there are coupons totaling $8.35 to be taken off the various Unilever products which can be purchased to qualify for the Elf discount. The Unilever products include Suave hair products, lotion & body wash products, Wisk laundry detergent, Snuggle fabric softener, Q-Tips, Vaseline lotions, Lever 2000 soap, Caress soap and body wash.

--Best Buy is reporting an exclusive bonus disc attached to their copies of Chronicles of Riddick. (Note: They only show the NR Director’s Cut Edition in their Sunday flyer.) “Exclusive on-pack disc features over one hour of footage, including behind-the-scenes interviews with writer/director David Twohy, cast, and crew plus an interactive production calendar for the film.” Minimum 75 per store. No rainchecks.

--Best Buy is also offering $5 off the purchase of ANY TWO volumes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force or Space Ghost Coast to Coast.

--Best Buy also has a bonus poster on-pack. “Illustrated by Alex Ross, bonus Smallville poster features Christopher Reeve and Tom Welling.”

--Best Buy has an exclusive on-pack action figure included with its copies of The Rise & Fall of ECW ($16.99).

--Target is advertising a free 3-ball sleeve of Nike ONE TW golf balls with the purchase of the three-disc Tiger Woods—The Authorized Collection (29.99).

--Target is also offering “exclusive content” on its copies of Shaun White’s “The White Album” DVD.

--This edition of the Weekly RoundUp NOW INCLUDES prices from Circuit City’s Sunday Flyer.

--In their Sunday flyer, Circit City has a coupon for "15% off three or more DVDs". "Offer good for one use and applies to toal qualifying purchase on a single sales receipt. Offer valid 11/14/04 - 11/24/04. Not valid on previous purchases. Discount taken from regular price at register. Sales tax, delivery fees and sales/clearance items excluded. Valid in-store only. Not combinable with select Circuit City offers. Not redeemable for cash. Reproduction/photocopies will not be accepted. Void where prohibited or restricted. Limit 15 per customer."

Well it's about time. I've been waiting almost 5 minutes! :D

Most everything I want this week is on my Christmas list, so I'll have to wait until Dec. 25 to find out whether someone gets me any of this week's goodies or not.

There's nothing on the roundup that I'll be picking up. Maybe my Wal*Mart will get some copies of Gone With the Wind and maybe I'll pick up the Hilary Duff - Learning to Fly dvd.

Thanks again for the roundup.

Ragtime and Elf (coincidentally, my two featured DVDs this week :D ) are on my Tuesday must-have shopping list. I would LOVE to get the Andy Griffith set. It'll have to wait, though.

Like George says, December's gonna be a tough month! ;)

Hey George! How did you and 4-year-old-son like The Polar Express? I'm gonna guess he liked it more than Roshomon! ;) My wife, 14-year-old-son and I saw The Incredibles this weekend. Wife and son hated it. I liked it a lot.

Bought:

Buffy S7
Iron Giant SE
Office Special

Very tempted by Buck Rogers, but learned my lesson from Battlestar Galactica (did not hold up well for me). Will probably rent it.

How did he like it? Let me put it this way:

1. We saw the 3-D version at IMAX. He doesn't like wearing 3-D glasses, but we put them on him when the film started and he never even tried to take them off.

2. He's already asking for the dvd for Xmas. We explained that the dvd won't be out by Christmas, and we'll get it for his birthday.

3. In the car ride home, and all night long, he's been running around the house playing Polar Express. :)

My wife and I also liked the movie. We'll be seeing Incredibles next week (or the week after), but with Pixar's track record, I fully expect to like it.

Haven't seen Elf, but I have the feeling it'll be a movie we'll want to own and will throw in to our xmas viewing repertoire.

Then there's the Beatles audio CD box set coming out Tuesday as well.

I know this isn't a DVD release, but just in case anyone may be also be interested this week Capitol is releasing a limited edition CD box set of the first four Beatles albums in their U.S. configurations (complete with a few fake stereo tracks and some first time on CD stereo mixes). All discs feature the songs twice, in their original stereo releases and again in mono.

_____________TITLE_______________ _ Amazon _ BestBuy _ CrcCity _ Target _ _ Tower __
Beatles, Capitol Albums Vol. 1 __ _ $49.99 _ $44.99 __ $49.99 __ $44.98 _ _ $49.99 __

Of course there are just as many people who think this is a terrible idea as there are those who cannot wait for the release. The following is from Steve Marinucci's excellent Abbeyrd Beatles web site:

The announcement of the release of “The Capitol Albums, Vol. 1” has reignited the debate between Beatle fans over the merits of their release. Many Americans feel it’s great to have them released because the American albums were what they grew up, while some feel the American albums weren’t what the Beatles intended.

This page is a starting point for various essays on the set and discussions on its merits. First off, here are two points of view, one from American Bruce Spizer, the author of several books about the Beatles’ American recording history, and also a consultant on the Capitol Albums boxed set, and from Martin Lewis, the British-born, US-based Beatles scholar and Derek Taylor protege, whose 36-year history of Beatles-related work ranges from 1968 (discographer for Hunter Davies' official biography) to this year (worldwide marketing consultant for Paul McCartney's "Music And Animation Collection") and includes being U.S. consultant on "Anthology" and "Live At The BBC," producing the DVD edition of "A Hard Day's Night" and associate producer of "The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show" DVD.

Also included is a background piece by Spizer on how the boxed set came about. Finally is a link to one of the earliest pages on this site with arguments for or against the release of the albums. Note that these particular pages were set up long before the boxed set was announced.

The follwing link takes you to the page where this is all discussed:

Again, at CostCo today I received a coupon flyer showing Fox boxsets for 12.00 off from Nov 26-29. That would put Buffy at 24.99, assuming there are any left (but then it IS Season 7!). I am probably going to wait to pick it up, at least to take advantage of the coupon. Other than that, the Iron Giant SE.

Hey, is "A Handful of Dust" OAR? I remember hearing that it wasn't initially and can't find any etailer who has a back cover photo of it to verify. I'd LOVE to get this title (its distributor, HBO, has a good track record with OAR releases), but not if it's full-fframe.

Smallville and Andy, and it'll be the first time I have returned to Best Buy for first-week DVDs in a long time. They finally beat Circuit City's prices.

Just confirmed Circuit City's prices in their flyer. Everything's the same except Chronicles of Riddick.

But, check out Circuit City's coupon offer! If you don't get a Sunday paper routinely, you may want to pick one up. This coupon is located in a flyer called "Our Biggest Holiday Catalog Ever".
