I purchased a samsung blu-ray htib system. I get great audio when watching blu-rays, but I get weak audio when watching tv from my cable box. The receiver doesn't have hdmi inputs, so I used optical audio. Sound only comes out of the front speakers and it is really weak. What would cause this?

In the cable box's setup menus, make sure the audio output is set to Dolby Digital. Also know that the only channels that broadcast in 5.1 surround are HD channels, some premium channels (HBO, Starz, etc.), and some PPV channels. All the rest should be in stereo, so you can set your htib system to "ProLogic II", and listen in simulated surround, which really isn't bad. Some channels sound better than others, in pro logic.

Thanks for the help. I will try it tomorrow. What is the best setting (pro logic II or dolby digital), if I am not going to change it back and forth?

You won't need to change it back and forth. If the htib system is set to "Auto", it will automatically recognize a digital signal, and play in Dolby Digital. Set it to Pro Logic II, while on a regular SD tv channel, and leave it. It will play all regular SD channels in PL II, and any channels with a digital signal in DD.
