WB marketing survey for Swordfish says... (1 Viewer)

Warner Bros. executives commissioned an exit poll and other consumer research before deciding to take Swordfish directly to sell-through on video and DVD, rather than going the more traditional video-store rental route first. Based on the research, they think thousands of people will fork over the $23 to own the action thriller, which also starred John Travolta and Hugh Jackman...
Among DVD owners, "Halle Berry scenes/naked" were found to be the most popular (scene) in the movie among 39 percent of the men polled and 18 percent of the women.
This makes me wonder about a few things..
  • Did anyone in the forum take this survey?
  • I really don't see how they'll be able to market it based solely on some skin. Reply if you do.
"Have you been waiting for a movie that has explosions and Halle Berry naked? Your time has come..."
  • When it refers to "scenes" as it does, do DVD owners have a different idea of what constitutes a scene? As in, the bank/street shootout in Heat is a scene, but a few seconds of nudity is as well?
Just a few open questions/statements. I, for one, will buy this regardless of how they market it. It's brain dead fun that will probably have strong enough sound to scare the neighbors.

How bout a special edition of Willy Wonka where anytime anyone says the word chocolate they insert a shot of Berry's boobies?

Marketing strikes again! WB is really relying too much on marketing.

According to W.B. reserch, they should just release Swordfish with just shots of Halley Berry's boobies. One continous shot after the next.

I will definently be buying this title regardless of Halle Berry's topless scene. I really enjoyed this movie at theaters.

I don't know how much I enjoyed this movie. The theater I saw it in was in horrible condition. The sound was simply awfull. I intend to buy it just so I can finally hear what the movie was really supposed to sound like.
However, if WB wanted to realease a two disc special edition with the second disc containing a two hour montage of Halle Berry naked.... well I wouldn't be too terribly upset. :)

Alan, the movie has pretty nice sound to it. Especially the explosion scene at the begining.
Plus it's a pretty decent movie!
I'm buying it for sure!

Like most male Halle Berry fans, WB has hit this one right on the head:
I don't want to rent HB's breasts...I want to OWN them!

Did they really say that 18% of women claimed seeing Halle Berry topless was the best thing about this film? Either there are are lot of women out there that lean that way, or they _really_ hated the rest of it!

I'm buying it as well. More of an impulse purchase but the thought of having Halle's breasts at my fingertips sealed the deal. :)

#1. I thought this movie sucked
#2. I will not buy it.
#3. I wasn't all that impressed with Halle Berry's boobs
But kudos to WB for giving this little jab toward Blockbuster. I didn't like the movie, but obviously some people did. Bu this still leaves me to wonder where the hell they perform these "surveys".

GUYS, GUYS, GUYS...
You have missed the real story with this, as was reported via Reuters the other day among other places. I was going to start my own thread about this, but since you are already talking about it...
Forget about the title chosen, that has NOTHING to do with this, really. It's pretty well understood in the business that this is the latest volly in the now-heating-up war between the studios (led by Warner) and Blockbuster.
The move is intended to lean hard on Blockbuster and undercut their special deals with VHS and DVD. WB is out in front of this charge, but I would look for some other big studios to get behind them once this starts getting nasty. WB is drawing the line in the sand with Blockbuster trying to break their hold on the rental "kickback" position they been sitting in and kill the rental-window.
They get great deals on buy-backs and pricing for VHS rental, and at this point they don't have to do much in the way of rental sharing on DVD rentals. The studios want some of that to give, and the mom and pops sure wouldn't mind seeing Blockbuster lose their "favored nation" status as a VHS renter.
Warner intends to undercut the VHS rental market, just as DVD purchasing is doing to DVD rental. Warner is ALSO talking about reeling in the pay-per-view window so that titles will be available while PPV rental is also available. They are intentionally moving to priced-to-sell VHS simply to kill the rental window that helps favor Blockbuster. It's risky on their part, but they have the foresight to see the shift in the video market that is happening.
In this battle it seems pretty clear that Warner is the good guys, which is why I was going to mention it myself since they were getting blasted for their other choices lately. Of course they have fixed their Wonka problem, which tells me that as much as they may seem troublesome, Warner still is bunking down in the DVD SALES trench for the upcoming video wars.
And that's the side we are on because among other things it means NO PRICED TO RENT WINDOWS from Warner. That's 100% good as far as I'm concerned.
Make no mistake, WB is the number one champion of the ANTI-Rental Pricing camp. Having the balls to back that with this Silverfish move just reinforces that fact.

Yes yes, but Seth: BOOBIES. HALLE BERRY'S BOOBIES.

All joking aside I definitely agree with you. I'd love to see Blockbuster taken down a peg or five and it's good to know that WB isn't completely evil. (Even less evil now that Wonka Widescreen is being released!)
