Having thoroughly enjoyed both the above, does anybody have any other recommendations in a similar vein (apart from the '32 scarface) and is there enough as yet unreleased titles for a third volume from the WB vault and if so which one's?

Warner still has some gangster films to release that can be included in another boxset. Some of them are the following and there are some other Cagney, Bogart and Robinson films that can be use in such a boxset.
    • Kid Galahad
    • Invisible Stripes
    • Johnny Eager
    • Brother Orchid
    • The Big House
    • The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse
    • 20,000 Years in Sing Sing
    • Smart Money
    • The Little Giant
    • The Earl of Chicago
    • They Gave Him a Gun

I'd love to see a release of 'Invisible Stripes'.

Great little film, imo.. and should be on DVD.

recently purchased the "Gangsters" set from Warner Bros. These films are great! Cagney rules! Plus the transfers are spectacular for films of this age. Loaded with extras and commentaries. A+

I had bought the Tough Guys Collection a few months ago, but never finished the set, but I did watch San Quentin and A Slight Case of Murder (very funny) the other night and I enjoyed them both. The trailer of Kid Galahad on one od the dvds makes me think that it'll be in an upcoming Edward G. Robinson set with :

    -Larceny Inc.
    -Brother Orchid
    -Kid Galahad
    -Two Seconds
    -Our Vines Have Tender Grapes
    -Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet.

Sometimes WB surprises us with sets we weren't expecting and hopefully a Tough Guys or Gangsters 2 is one of them.

PICTURE SNATCHER (1933) is the one I want, whether it be in TOUGH GUYS 3 or JAMES CAGNEY: The Signature Collection Vol. 2. My favorite Cagney film.

I hope that the next Cagney will reflect the "edgier" Cagney: SMART MONEY, PICTURE SNATCHER, COME FILL THE CUP, A LION IN THE STREETS, BLONDE CRAZY, LADY KILLER, JIMMY THE GENT.WINNER TAKE ALL, TAXI!

Robert: Don't forget "The Secret Six" with Wallace Beery and Clark Gable, "The Beast of the City" and "The Star Witness", both with Walter Huston, "Penthouse" with Warner Baxter, "The Mouthpiece" with Warren William as the mob mouthpiece, "Public Hero Number One" with Chester Morris, and the "The Big House" with Morris, Beery, and Robert Montgomery.

And best of all 1958's "Party Girl" with Robert Taylor, directed by Nicholas Ray, which is arguably Robert Taylor's greatest film, and one of the great cirme/gangster films of the 1950's, and also Budd Boetticher's outstanding "The Rise and Fall of Legs Diamond".

My thoughts exactly, these can't be too far away from release if they decide to put out further volumes of the Gangster/Tough Guys boxsets and/or the spotlight boxsets for Cagney, Robinson and Bogart . I've been lucky enough to catch Taxi! and a little bit of Smart Money on Turner Classic Movies.

I can't wait for Dust Be My Destiny. I'm assuming that'll be in the Garfield set.

Agreed on all the above. The early 30s Cagneys have a quality all their own and they're by far my favorites of his films, esp. PICTURE SNATCHER, JIMMY THE GENT, LADY KILLER and BLONDE CRAZY.
