According to cnn.com the Wayans' Bros have been signed on to write the screenplay for a 21st century style Munsters movie, though they are to remain true to the characters. This is the first time they have done a screen adaptation as their previous projects "White Chicks" and the "Scary Movies" have been based on original ideas.

I'm not liking this Munsters movie AT ALL! How can anyone do justice to Herman, Lily, and Grandpa? Oh that's right, they can't![IMG]

"Scary Movie" original? Wasn't it just a compilation of scenes ripped off from a bunch of horror films with some feeble attempts at humor inserted here and there?

    From the article:

This makes it sound like another "let's make fun of the old show" remake like The Brady Bunch or The Beverly Hillbillies. What makes this worse than those two is that The Munsters is a show that I actually like.

I can see it now... Lily walks in and catches Eddie watching
An American Werewolf in London with a sock over his wiener.

I was actually suprised that I liked Raul Julia as Gomez as well as the rest of the Addams Family cast, but can you imagine anyone else playing Herman or Grandpa??

I dunno. I could see someone like Ron Perlman or Patrick Warburton doing a pretty decent Herman.

Course, the Wayans brothers don't give me a whole lot of confidence.

Brad Garrett (of "Everybody Loves Raymond") would make a good Herman in my opinion...he has expressed interest in playing the part.

How about Peter Boyle as Grandpa? Make it a "...Raymond" reunion. [IMG]

And Patricia Heaton could play a witch (like she does now.)

This will make the 5th actors to play Herman and Grandpa!

THE MUNSTERS TODAY ran for three seasons (1988-91), and had none of the original cast. FOX did two Munsters TV movies (HERE COME THE MUNSTERS and THE MUNSTERS SCARY LITTLE CHRISTMAS) and both of them had different casts!

We don't need another lame attempt at this, do we? The original can't be topped. And the Wayans? Those SCARY MOVIE flicks were simply awful and painfully unfunny.

Another needless, totally unnecessary re-hash of something that was already great as it was. Whether it winds up being lousy or good, I have no interest at all.

I don't know... if it's made in the vein of "The Addams Family" movie then I think this could be quite successful. Although, that film had Barry Sonnenfeld and this one has the Wayans Bros. behind it.

Why go to the movies when you can get the same thing for less on TV Land?

    NOT SAY ANYONE IN PATICULAR...

If it were the Zucker Bros. doing it, you'd be all for it. Let someone do a movie they want to do. The Wiz was a good movie. It should not be considered a "black version" it should just be a remake or a new vision.

Well, if it gets the original series onto DVD. Wait, it's already on DVD! Looks like I've got all the Munsters I need.

But they've already stated that they are remaining faithful to the original source material and the family will remain white. They are simply writing and making an appearance in it.

I thought this was a pretty much dead project. Has some new news come to light on this? Or is everyone posting today not aware that it was well over a year ago since the previous post...?
