Widescreen Review gave the DTS sound for this movie a 5+. I purchased and watched it last night. It appeared as though the LFE channel was inactive throughout the movie. Can anyone comment on this?

Wasn't this a 5.0 soundmix? All the bass got mixed into the 5 speaker channels only.

Yes, there is no LFE present: 5.0 only.

I thought the DTS version was 5.1 and DD was 5.0. I could be wrong though.

It might have improperly flagged it as 5.1 but the movie (like Disney's Tarzan) is 5.0 only (DD and DTS).

This movie need a 2-disc SE of the longer version with DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1, commentaries, interviews, outtakes, etc.

It's an exilirating movie, harshly criticised at the time. Now it can be viewed as a GREAT sunday afternoon fun-fest! [IMG] [IMG]

Thanks guys! While the cover indicates DTS 5.1 it doesn't appear that it is. I am sending this movie back with the hope of a revised edition.

    why send it back?
    does it not sound great?

there doesnt seem to be any news of any special editions coming anytime soon.

i would like to see one tho' with the extra scenes incorporated back into the movie.

This DTS version with no LFE channel doesn't sound great to me (i.e. as good as some DD 5.1).

I would like to see the extended cut on DVD (and hopefully it will be the uncensored version show on Encore and not the censored for TV version that has been shown on ABC, USA, Sci-Fi, and Encore).

I like the extended cut much better than the theater cut.

    DTS: Disastrous Technical Snafu
Just add this too the list...

The movie got RIPPED in the press!
As well as the director & star.
The movie put's me in a world covered in water, as intend. A satisfying experience, even with a 5.1 soundtrack w/o the .1!?!?!?

I would snatch up a 2-disc SE of this the minute it's out! A truly great fun movie. I don't understand why nobody liked it.

Waterworld was much like Last Action Hero: Huge anticipation and huge budget, but bad press started circulating prior to release and promotional activity was almost nil after that. They sank quickly, no pun intended... Both were much, much better than the reviews would have one believe.

Titanic was almost in a, er, similar boat, but it was somehow righted and managed to build mega word of mouth. Not sure why it was different in that respect.
