Slightly off topic:
I could not have said it better. I worked for nearly 20 years in computer support for a major US bank. I hated my life. 3 years ago, they were hinting at laying people off, so I asked to be let go at the then current severance package.
I now work as a helper doing home theater installations at age 45, and I love it. Life is enormously better- I no longer spend my time off dreading Monday.
I make one third of what I made at the bank. I'm still alive. So I bought a Whirlpool range instead of a Viking, Thermador, or some other high-end model. And I'll use formica for my new counters instead of granite. I drive a '95 Concorde, not a Lexus.
This country seems to be inundated with Madison Avenue BS designed to make everyone feel guilty about everything they do, and inadequate if they don't have the best of whatever. And we're slaves because of it.
