I recently purchased the following used:
JBL Synthesis Two:
speakers: two main, one center, two rear and two sub woofers (so a 5.2 set)
S400 Amp
S650 Amp
SDEC 2500
SDP 3
My thought is that it should be fully functional, the only feature lacking is HDMI for the pre-amp. But other then that, what are your thoughts? How much would you pay for it?
There are also some other parts thrown in:
Rack
Sony DVP S7700 (I already have a Panasonic BluRay)
Sony SLV 998HF (VCR)
Yamaha RX-V596 receiver

Depending on what you got speaker wise (the Synthesis Two Array "brand" has been around a while)...5.2 is worth as little as $1000, to as much as $10,000.
The amps are worth around $400 and $600.
The pre-amp is an expensive paperweight. People attempt to sell them all the time. It is old technology...
The DVD player is a paperweight. It was great...10 years ago.
The VCR might be worth more than the DVD player.
The Yamaha is worth using in a theater in a room that isn't HD.

You pretty much confirmed what I thought. Funny how a VCR can be of greater value then a CD player, all relatively speaking of course. And I figured the pre-amp didn't have much if any value.
All in all I think I did okay, paying $750 for the whole lot. It will give me a starting point with the plasma and blu-ray I purchased a year ago.

By the way, that Pre-amp you got is a tremendous pre-amp...
It would give you the excuse to buy one of these...(there is more than 1 DVDO, at various price points...and if the JBL Pre-Amp has a 6/8 channel input...an excuse for an Oppo...)

So you do not think I could use the DVDO to take the video via HDMI into the SDP 3?
What about this, for the Blu-ray could I go out HDMI to the plasma and also out with the audio via another means (I can't recall what other outputs are on it) to the SDP 3?

The only issue with the SDP 3 is you'll not have lossless with it.
You'd connect all your sources to the DVDO, then a single optical to the SDP 3.
If the SPD had a 6/8 channel, you could buy a BD player with them...and have lossless.
