    Warners,
I was wondering why you are increasingly releasing NTSC titles in R4 Australia which uses the PAL broadcasting standard. Doesn't this mean that these titles are 'defective' and 'not fit for purpose' so, why are you doing this??
    Your latest offerings include:
    Willy Wonka (P&S version)
    Goonies (due 21 Nov)
    V the Original Miniseries
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (a flipper!!)
    Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Can you please explain the reasoning behind this decision?
    Yours in curiosity,
    Angela

I can't speak for Warners, but one advantage of having films in NTSC format is that they at least run at the correct speed. Films played back in PAL format play 4% faster than they should.

    Hi Bruce,
True about the 4%, but as I've never noticed this speed-up, it is is not an issue for me... [IMG]
What does bug me is that I can't watch an NTSC R4 encoded disc on my PAL tv with my PAL R4 dvd player....
Oh well, lets see if Warner can explain this marketing strategy [IMG]

Yeah Bruce, this isn't a question of the various issues between PAL and NTSC as each has it's positives and negatives.
Angela, are you sure there isn't an NTSC output on your DVD that would at least allow you to play these.
I personally think it's despicable to do this. Lazy and unhelpful.
The 10th Kingdom was released over here (R2) like that by Warners and there's some thought that Bakshi's Lord of the Rings is similarly afflicted.
