Greg,
Please read this thread again because you're missing the point I'm making, in regard to Warner's release output.

Having just started a thread similar to this one, I feel that we should all keep this one going. I want my Harlow, Garbo, Gable, and Crawford soon WHV! I also want the silent Ben-Hur, Grand Hotel, Mutiny on the Bounty, and all of those cool Errol Flynn flicks. License them if you have to, but get them in public hands. I also want those great film noirs like "The Postman always rings twice" and "The Killers." Hopefully you guys will get with it.......sometime before the next millenia.

To Robert Crawford:
I agree with you 1,000%. As I have said on other threads, what Warner is doing (or not doing) with their great catalog of films is very depressing. If MGM/UA still had the rights to the MGM catalog, we would be getting tons of very acceptable DVD's at reasonable prices. Remember all of those great MGM/UA laser discs? Just look what MGM/UA is doing now with the UA catalog.
There is a big gaping hole in the DVD world and Warner needs to fill it. If they feel it won't be profitable for them to release these older movies, why don't they take a 100% profit and lease them to Image or Criterion or MGM/UA?
Maybe they are trying to protect their sister company, Turner Classic Movies. I don't know the real answer but it is a real pity that thousands of great MGM, Warner Brothers and RKO films are not available on the predominant home video format of the 21st century.

Once dvd really got rolling I stopped buying laser discs because I figured sooner or later they'd make their way to dvd. But in Warner's case I guess I'll make an exception and use Robert's list as a list of movies to try to find on laser disc because they don't look like they're going to make it to dvd anytime soon.

There's a poll going on in which it seems everyone but me is voting in favor of Warner's release pattern. See http://www.hometheaterforum.com/uub/...ML/001196.html

The amazing thing about the heavily pro-Warner response to that poll is that people don't seem to realize, or don't care, that this means some movies are never going to be available in their proper aspect ratio or with better-than-VHS quality unless they air that way on AMC or TCM, since in ten years or so when the next video format starts to take hold, WB will just release the same titles it released for DVD. I can't quite figure out how that's a good thing.

How about Warner Bros. compete against MGM's "SOUL CINEMA" series and release several of their "BLAXPLOTATION FILMS" of the 70's.
