just found this posted at DVDangle;

while it would be easy to pick 5 out of this batch and be happy, i thought they said for sure that "Postman" was coming in '04- along with more Thin Man films?
is this just meaning titles that will be realeased in the first month, and that the rest have a good shot during the rest of the year?

This is kind of depressing. I can't stand AOL, so therefore I'm not elgible to vote. I hope that there are plenty of classic movie lovers on AOL. Of course, I don't think I could complain about any of those titles being released.

My 5 would be:
Days of Wine & Roses
The Postman Always Rings Twice
After The Thin Man
Another Thin Man
The Asphalt Jungle

Davis dvd is reporting this and going on to say that any films not picked in the first round will still see a release in 12-18 months.

i hope the Libeled Lady is still on the schedule.

i'm not a big AOL fan either, but if i were voting it would probably be

Postman
Another Thin Man
Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde
Asphalt Jungle

and a second vote for Postman :)

Good God - Bad Day at Black Rock is my most wanted out of all of those, closely followed by The Postman Always Rings Twice, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Days of Wine and Roses and The Asphalt Jungle.

After reading the article, I believe every title mentioned in the contest will be released in 2004, however, the top five vote getters will have a January release date ahead of the other titles mentioned in the contest.

I guess we could all grab one of those free AOL signup discs, create an AOL account, vote during our free month, then cancel. But that's an incredible hassle.

As long as all of those those titles are released in 2004, I'll be delighted! I'd like to see BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK, THE ASPHALT JUNGLE, THE BLACKBOARD JUNGLE, SOMEBODY UP THERE LIKES and THE WIND AND THE LION in January, but I know that not everyone will agree on that and I won't be disppointed it NONE of them arrive in January, as long as they arrive by December, yes? :D

Anyway, great news! Great titles! You couldn't go wrong no matter what you voted for! :emoji_thumbsup:

This gets even better. Hive4media is reporting the following:

"All have already been remastered for DVD, and extras such as documentaries and audio commentaries have been archived, he said.

For instance, director Robert Wise has recorded a commentary for Somebody Up There Likes Me and John Milius has completed one for The Wind and the Lion."

Since I am neither an A(ssholes)OL member or have heard of any of those movies, I won't be voting.

I don't even know what genre or what era those movies came from.

It will be interesting to see which titles end up in the winner's circle. I think it's great that WB is doing this. I must admit that I'd be hard-pressed to limit myself to 5 choices. Each film on the list is one I'd buy in a heartbeat. My personal favorite of them all is THE ASPHALT JUNGLE.

David, if you've never even heard of any of those films then you're simply not a classics kind of guy. Not a judgement, simply an observation.

My votes would go to:

The Actress (Underrated and charming George Cukor film with Spencer Tracy, Jean Simmons and Anthony Perkins)

Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (but is it the 1932 Fredric March version or the 1941 Spencer Tracy version? How about a double feature of both)

Finian's Rainbow (complete roadshow version and the deleted "Necessity" number reinstated would be nice)

Night Of The Iguana (with the "On the trail of the Iguana" documentary included)

Where The Boys Are (with commentary by Connie Francis, Paula Prentiss, Yvonne Mimieux, George Hamilton and Dolores Hart if they let her out of the convent for such things)

Please get every AOLer you know to vote for Asphalt Jungle! My mother's got an account, so there'll be at least one vote. I've been waiting for this movie, and it's amazing it's coming either January or a little later.

You're right. I'm not into the classic movies unless they are the sweeping epics like Lawrence of Arabia, Ben Hur, Spartacus, and the like. I just don't get into the old dramas n' such. Why? Well I don't even like modern dramas. My main genre interests are sci-fi, (modern) historial pieces, action blockbusters, and war films.

And there are going to be plenty of those too in the coming months from Warner Bros, and all the other studios/companies, of course!

'Something for everyone', as they say. :) :emoji_thumbsup:
