Sam Goldwyn had nothing to do with Three Little Words. I so hope you aren't complaining about the lack of MGM titles out there. There's more MGM out there than practically any other studio.
No was alluding to the fact Mr F said negs for Three Little Words were on the lot last year and Keith looking forward to it saying it is his fave Astaire film and then mentioning the Goldwyn Warner deal

I'm a little disappointed that Three Little Words hasn't been released this year as it's my favourite Astaire film but at least there is progress (unlike some other favourites). The deal with Goldwyn seems to have just fizzled out with absolutely no news of future activity. Still I expect good things from the Warner stable in 2023/24.
With Mr F in the drivers seat it will the best results from the WAC library we can hope for. Since he is a lover of phyiscal media himself, and knows most of what we love in movies, I'd say you can relay on him to "do his best" to guide the WAC ship to the best of his ability. Of course he has people that he has to answer to, but given what has been relayed during several podcasts, I am very optomistic about 23/24.

Much of this, of course, relays on many factors (OCN availability, quality, is there a OCN, and Budget) with a number of titles in the pipeline, not mentioned. Many things can happen between aquisition of the materials and a full release, as we all know.

The way I look at it...Hope for the best, Expect the Worse, and when the smoke clears "yous gets what yous gets"!!! ;)

Happy New Year to all!!!!!

Goldwyn such a great library and zilch

Not since they put out Dodsworth in 2020 at least. That said, we must remember that the Goldwyn library is apparently in very bad shape, as Robert Harris revealed in the thread concerning a possible restoration of Porgy and Bess. Therefore, even if Warner’s deal with them is still in effect, we’ll probably be waiting a long while before we get another Goldwyn since the estate prefers to do restoration work themselves.

Agreed, but it seems a little crazy on MGMs part, considering that it's WAC that has the "magic secret sauce" tech wise, to get the most out of any title that goes through the upgraded system for restoration, right? It just makes sense to let them do the restoration and MGM gets the praise...no brainer!! :D

I don’t think MGM controls any of the Goldwyn library, except maybe The Hurricane.

I have the old dvd's of Bishops Wife Hans Christian Andersen I think they were MGM that is still out there the 2013 Warners is out of print yet the WAC version still for sale - the Goldwyns are a mess they need to be addressed again for release but Capt McMars raises a great point too bad WAC MPI cannot restore the Goldwyn films but their deal might have lapsed BUT on the WAC with five great titles announced for Jan the Feb releases announcements due in Jan will be interesting! Will it be Warner films or MGM films this time? Trying to get the thread back to WAC!

1998 original release! This is what I have!

Some time ago the BBC broadcast Walter Mitty in HD which looked very good. Also WA released Danny Kaye: The Goldwyn Years as a DVD set. Next time George does a podcast and we are invited to submit questions, Golwyn films and Walter Mitty in particular will be on my list as well.
Yup, I remember that, it looked great, just a bit of a clean-up away from Archive quality I thought.

Yep, that and the Inspector General, both titles are in ungrade limbo. It's nice to hear that WM got an HD treatment upgrade. The IG is in faded unwashed hell. Film Detective tried to clean it up, and it's ok, or at least better than all the other copies out there, but is FARRRR from a restored edition as they mention on the sleeve.

Such a great film - Was their a restoration? Just wish when Mr F does a podcast again he can be asked will anything else be done with the Goldwyns for the archive?
What I was able to find out is that this may very well be the 2012 version from the Digibook release of that year? In the 2020 release there is no mention of restoration of 2K or 4K treatment of the materials or from what source they were dirived from, in the creation of this edition.
But my guess is these are just very clean elements and they ran with them, with minimal cleanup, maybe??
If this had been a full restoration I'm sure that all the Bells and Whistels would be firing off at full blast!!

Clash by Night would benefit from the upgrade. Hardly the greatest Lang film film but has lots of great visual touches and Lang got nice work with an excellent cinematographer, Nicholas Musaraca. And of course Marilyn (though the great Robert Ryan is the best actor in the film.)
The Asphalt Jungle - as others have already pointed out - is on a great blu ray by Criterion.

The Prince and the Showgirl, shot by Cardiff in Technicolor (!), would most certainly also benefit. The DVD is pan&scan. I've never seen it in OAR.

Does anyone know what OAR for this film would be? There's this thread: The Prince and the Showgirl... What Gives?
