I saw this for the first time today, and REALLY enjoyed the film. What great cinema! Douglas and Turner are fantastic, and while Gloria Grahame was quite good in her limited role, I just don't see the Oscar in her performance. She's done better work IMO. But that's picking nits, because I love her. :) The transfer, as many have said, is absolutely luminous! A gorgeous black and white production that I'm happy to have in my library.

Yeah, we've discussed this before. 1952 was the year of Grahame as she played important roles in not only this but also Sudden Fear, Macao, and The Greatest Show on Earth. It was likely the combination of ALL of her 1952 work that brought her this honor. I agree that I would not have given her the award strictly for her work in The Bad and the Beautiful. But the Oscars often work this way.

An interesting tidbit that came out of Martin Scorsese's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel - one of the projects he and Robert De Niro worked on after "Casino" was a remake of "The Bad and the Beautiful."

My copy arrived from Amazon today, only 2 days after the release date! I just finished watching the feature, and I will likely watch it again tomorrow. I did think it looked ok on DVD, but this Blu-ray is astonishing. Gorgeous, velvety Black and White, immaculately presented with equally excellent sound. Warner Archives have hit another bullseye with this one.

I watched my Blu-ray of this tonight, and it was simply awesome to see it in beautifully pristine condition. The black and white cinematography simply shimmers in some scenes, and the movie is just superb in every respect.
