Thanks for all the replies. I’m trying to figure out if I need to keep my standard def DVD set, since I will never watch it now that I have a better HD source. And I’m not digging the “mistake” in total running time, especially if it’s a discrepancy of 104 minutes! Is WB okay with this?
It's just a math mistake. Running times on TV series are not actual to-the-second accounting of the run time. They simply multiply the average episode runtime by the number of episodes. The mistake is that they calculated 26 episodes times 22 minutes (syndication runtime) instead of 26 episodes times 26 minutes (original network runtime).

Thanks Mark/Ben/Andrew/Bob/Howie for explaining this discrepancy. I guess no one at WB thought to simply LOOK at the running time on the DVD set to compare. Too bad WB doesn't hire ONE of you guys to QC before any public release! Believe me, if this was a Beatles release with a sloppy mistake Capitol Records/EMI would be forced to fix the issue and offer swap-outs due to rabid Beatles purists (i.e. their dedicated buying base). And then of course the recalled product would shoot up in value....;)

You would think WB should know the right run times as they were using the original masters to put this release together to begin with.

The episode Arctic Splashdown has a run time of 25:08, that is the shortest episode on the DVD, but on Dailymotion I see that it's 25:19. Why would WB cut 11 seconds?

"Arctic Splashdown" on the BR runs 25:31 and is the next to shortest episodes on disc 1 (the shortest runs 25:28). The rest on that disc run 25:34 or higher with most at 25:35.

Good to see WB didn't cram all 26 episodes over just two discs only like they did with The New Scooby-Doo Movies The Almost Complete Collection. I don't know why studios and companies like to cram too many episodes per disc when it comes to Blu-ray releases.

I agree... for quality's sake, with that set it should also be on at least three discs... and had they been able to get the rights to the Addams Family episode, this is what it would have looked like...

Disc 1:
1. Ghastly Ghost Town (special guests: The Three Stooges) (9/9/1972)
2. The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair (special guests: Batman and Robin) (9/16/1972)
3. Wednesday is Missing (special guests: The Addams Family) (9/23/1972)
4. The Frickert Fracas (special guest: Jonathan Winters) (9/30/1972)
5. Guess Who's Knott Coming to Dinner (special guest: Don Knotts) (10/7/1972)
6. A Good Medium is Rare (special guest: Phyllis Diller) (10/14/1972)
7. Sandy Duncan's Jekyll and Hyde (special guest: Sandy Duncan) (10/21/1972)
8. The Secret of Shark Island (special guests: Sonny and Cher) (10/28/1972)

Disc 2:
9. The Spooky Fog (special guest: Don Knotts) (11/4/1972)
10. Scooby-Doo Meets Laurel and Hardy (special guests: Laurel and Hardy) (11/11/1972)
11. The Ghost of the Red Baron (special guests: The Three Stooges) (11/18/1972)
12. The Ghostly Creep from the Deep (special guests: The Harlem Globetrotters) (11/25/1972)
13. The Haunted Horseman of Hagglethorn Hall (special guest: Davy Jones) (12/2/1972)
14. The Phantom of the Country Music Hall (special guest: Jerry Reed) (12/9/1972)
15. The Caped Crusader Caper (special guests: Batman and Robin) (12/16/1972)

This Scooby series was an hour long though, that would be about 45-50 minutes without commercials; shouldn't there be 4 to maybe 5 episodes on each disc instead?

What you suggest would be exactly the number of episodes per disc the original 15-episode DVD set had... I know Blu-Rays do allow for more long episodes per disc, but I think I understand what you mean.

The running time listed on the BR case is incorrect.

Just to allay your fears I popped in disc 2 and checked the episode lengths. Most are 25:34 long with variances by a second or two. The extras make up the rest of the ~676 run time and are exactly the same ones on the DVD set.

With only a couple of very small audio issues (In "Monster in the Monastery" there's an odd bit of audio dropped into the middle of a scene and when Race pops out of the water in "Pursuit of the Po-Ho" the splash sound effect is missing) the episodes on the BR are NOB. That includes the differences in the open during the series as well as fully intact, original, show credits for each episode.

Howie, thank you so much for actually being patient enough to do proper research and taking the time to post FACTS rather than jump to conclusions and assume the worst. Forum people sure love to rush to judgement when they believe they might have, could have, maybe, perhaps heard the slightest whisper that the sky is falling.

They’re not meant to, they’re supposed to have the same amount of episodes in higher quality.

Any Blu-Ray set that has less discs than its DVD counterpart is a victim of cost cutting.

What he meant is that Jonny Quest got 3 discs for half of the runtime, so Scooby should have got 5-6. And if Warner Archive handled it, it would have.

In other words, the Blu-Ray set should also, for picture quality purposes, be a four-disc set.

Episodes 1-7 on disc 1, episodes 8-14 on disc 2, episodes 15-20 on disc 3 and episodes 21-26 on disc 4. Hopefully that would leave some room for special features to be distributed across at least the first two discs.

No, not at all. The Blu-ray set should also, for picture quality purposes, be a six-disc set, just like the DVD set.

My apologies, I was referring to how Scooby needed more discs when Ben quoted me. I just assumed he was also talking about Scooby as the Jonny Quest set is an amazingly release and I didn’t even consider that someone would want it to have more discs.

The Jonny Quest set has more than enough discs and is a quality product - the best animation Blu-Ray I have ever seen. The Scooby set is the only one that needs more discs.
