With the rise of TV threatening moviegoing, wider screens became Hollywood’s way to combat that competition. M-G-M went all in and placed their bets on the new CinemaScope process. In addition to their feature films, the studio emboldened their cartoon unit run by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera - and their Oscar® winning series of Tom and Jerry™ shorts. The new visual approach to the famous team’s animated adventures was artistically refreshing - and won sweeping popular success with audiences. This set includes all 23 of these wide-screen wonders – collected together for the first time on Blu-ray™ as originally seen in theatres. Also included are Hanna & Barbera’s two stand-alone Spike & Tyke cartoons - and their Oscar®-nominated Good Will To Men. Animated, Anamorphic, and Amazing! The ultimate chase - continues!

The Collection contains:
1. PETE PEEVE (1954)
2. TOUCHÈ PUSSYCAT (1954)

Would’ve preferred a double disc of all the MGM CinemaScope cartoons but I bet this will look amazing.

Curious to know if this will include the Academy Ratio versions made for the first few shorts (the press release doesn’t say anything in this regard). I once managed to see a print of the Academy Ratio version of Touché Pussycat (not a pan and scan of the CinemaScope version) which I felt had overall better framing than the CinemaScope version and made the ending a tad funnier.

Yes, the spherical versions would be nice to haves----and isn't the first few T&J Scope cartoons 2.55:1 and not 2.35:1?

The Mag prints of these would have been 2.55:1. The optical prints 2.35:1.
If any of these were released after MagOptical prints became the norm, they would have been 2.35:1.

I love this announcement so much! And yet I'm waiting for more, the rest of the Hanna-Barbera Tom and Jerry's, deserve a release. Last release Golden Collection from 2011, plus this still leaves a 51 missing from Hanna-Barbera's run of theatrical shorts. And everyone is a gem that should be cherished. Hoping that they materialize along with the 1950's Popeye Theatrical Shorts :D

It's great that these classic animation shorts are getting the Warner Archive extra care they deserve.

I wonder if Mr. Irven (sometimes credited as Irv) Spence was bothered by the misspelling of his name in this short. Seems that many animators stuck with Hanna-Barbera from its beginnings through its many iterations over the decades it was active. Irv Spence and Richard (sometimes credited as Dick) Bickenbach are just two very familiar names from all my years watching "The Flintstones," "The Jetsons," and other H-B television programs.

Reviews are out. It looks like the 1954 shorts are not in their original 2.55:1 aspect ratio, but do have stereo sound. Too bad. I wonder why? Maybe the original camera negatives weren't available and the only elements they had were modified to 2.35:1
