Corporate logic is an oxymoron...
There's too many dopey conspiracy theories out there today but it seems like Zaslav or someone at Warners has a vendetta against Looney Tunes. They dropped that Wile E. Coyote movie to legally cheat on their taxes, they unloaded The Day The Earth Blew Up and now, they've dropped the shorts off of their streaming service. What sense is there in dropping all of them? I can believe that Looney Tunes aren't as popular as they used to be but getting rid of them whole cloth is just a bad move because it makes HBO Max look bad by getting rid of an entire very recognizable part of their service. Just leave a few of them on there and this isn't a headline and no one complains.

Also, didn't the shorts get dropped before and they came back because people griped?

These are more necessary and than ever now that damned Zaslav has taken them off of Max. Sometimes, I wish I could understand corporate logic.
Pearls of Wisdom (in the meantime): Have any of you guys checked MAX on either Latin America [Mexico] or Brazil?

I hope they will not be destroyed... without them, there'd be no more of these Blu-Ray sets.

We also have them on MeTV Toons!

This doesn't make any sense since they have a hand drawn movie/film that just came out ...

I've noticed a trend that a lot of people online seem to believe stuff being taken off streaming services to be like wiping tapes or junking film. They're just not on one specific service, it's not like they're throwing reels into the fire right after deleting a link. From what I understand of streaming platforms, the actual video files are probably still there, just not actively linked.

One never knows. Keep in mind that one exec at Fox made a decision to destroy the entire Fox Technicolor library.

Oops?

Warners is not distributing the movie (Ketchcup Entertianment is) so I guess they've got a lot smaller stake and they don't care about having a very obvious and easy tie-in on HBO Max? It's either an incredibly dumb move or a deliberate slight but both of those answers are just senseless on Warners' part.

So if I am understanding the situation correctly Warner Bros. originally was going to produce "The Day The Earth Blew Up" as a Max TV series. Then it was going to be a Max TV movie. Then it was going to be a theatrical release but when Discovery purchased Warner Bros the release was cancelled and was going to be a tax write-off like the Coyote movie but Warner Bros allowed the movie to be shopped to other distributors and, unlike the Coyote movie, found a distributor, Ketchup Entertainment. No love for the Looney Tunes .

In the meantime, I'm have a plane to catch, as I'm on streaming investigation how many classic shorts in HD, not on BD, there are in the Mexican or Brazilian part of Max [just a tip] :)

Yes, however, I don't believe they were actually destroyed on purpose. They were destroyed because of the fire that broke out in 1978 at the George Eastman House where they were stored at the time.
That happened to MGM negatives. Fox deliberately dumped their nitrate negatives, including three-strip Technicolor camera negs, in the 1970s. Robert Harris often makes mention.

I can understand the frustrations... think the merger of WB into WBD, was not the best way for the company to proceed forward and the seams are starting to show. Discovery and their corporate heads IMO don't understand the true nature of the film history, not just of these shorts, but a few other things as well. Not everyone interested in their brand of reality programing.

thankfully the archive is run by someone who does understand!

sorry for the rant, going to see Daffy and Porky at the theater again just to rub it in that they made a mistake!

A good list of shorts on both discs. I’m very happy about Hare Trimmed as that’s my favourite Bugs Bunny short. I also should’ve put Horton Hatches The Egg on my guess list originally as that was an obvious choice for an upgrade. My one minor nitpick is the continued lack of Black and White shorts on these sets. The Harman-Ising and Porky shorts from the 30s are really underrated so I hope we’ll see more in future volumes.

Lastly, I wonder if this approach is the way to go with the MGM library? That way we can get some much needed improvement on the Tom and Jerry shorts on the first Golden Collection.

There's too many dopey conspiracy theories out there today but it seems like Zaslav or someone at Warners has a vendetta against Looney Tunes.
I and many others have been very patiently waiting (for about ten years now) for La-La Land Records to release the final CD volume of music from Batman The Animated Series, but Warner licenses to boutique soundtrack labels are basically dead in the water in the Zaslav era. So I don't think it's just Looney Tunes.

As for this new Blu-ray series format, this must bring us ever closer to the entire catalog of at least the color cartoons being restored, and with it also bringing us closer to the potential for a large BD box set collecting everything (ideally from 1930-1969). Patiently waiting for that too.

Great release!

I really can't complain about anything on either list. There are some on the "never before released" list that honestly surprised me, so I'm really looking forward to that. Does amazon have a pre-order page yet?
