It won't be confusing if you stay on top of it. It will be confusing in 5-10 years when new collectors try to get into it. I say, bring it on, bring it all on. It's nice if they replace all the Golden Collection shorts by some point (it'll take years). But I don't mind so much seeing as how I bought all six of the Golden Collections and completely snubbed the Platinum blu-ray releases and now they are out of print.
I did the exact same thing and regret it all the time. WAC need to re-release them already!

I remember hearing about alot of duplication from the shorts on the Golden Collections on the Platinum sets so I never bought them either. Looking at the Wikipedia link in Bob's last post, the Platinum sets had 50 shorts each but only 7 new-to-disc shorts were on V1, 10 new shorts on V2 and 4 new shorts on V3. The upgrade to HD is nice but given that half of this new series is new-to-disc, I'm not the only one who felt that they needed less repeats on there.

Aside from the banned 13, has everything single Looney Tunes from 1933-1969 been released in some home video format?

Looking at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Looney_Tunes_Golden_Collection#Available_shorts there's just over 200 of the 1,002 shorts that still haven't been released on DVD or Blu-ray. That includes all the box sets and single disc Looney Tunes releases and Warner releases where they include a LT short with the movie.

EDIT: Someone with more expert knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong but that's how I read that list.

But that doesn't exactly answer my question if almost every single Looney Tunes short has been released on all home video formats whether it be Betmax/VHS, Laserdisc, as well as DVD and Blu-ray.

The laserdisc sets put out everything from 1931 to 1948 minus the Censored Eleven. As for VHS, you're on your own to Google that but I can't imagine that VHS releases went any deeper than the laserdisc, DVD or Blu-rays have gone.

I thought it was 13 banded, not 11. So the 50's and 60's haven't ever been released at all then?

The title I’ve been patiently waiting for years for is “I Gopher You.” It was the one that starred the Goofy Gophers trying to get their vegetables back from the canning factory. It was a regular staple on the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour when I was a kid, but has yet to be released on a Looney Tunes collection DVD or Blu-ray. Maybe this time!

I remember seeing this on MAX; went back to look and now can't find ANY of the old cartoons on the site. (I was going through the entire collection when it was there and stopped when they did the most recent "pruning" of the later titles. Now - gone completely as far as I can tell. Any insight here?)

Side question which I could probably answer by an internet search, but since I'm here: when did the Censored 11 (or 13) vanish (more or less)? It's somewhat curious that there's never seemed to be as much "stink" about this as there is about "Song of the South". (Not looking for controversy here, just a simple answer from someone who might know.)

Seems like it happened once Associated Artists Productions was bought by United Artists Television since there's prints in circulation with the AAP logo. Turner also had 1" video masters like the rest of the library.

All 11 still exist and have been restored, but won't likely ever see a home video release anytime soon though.

Answering my own question: per a comment from ToonHive on X, the entire Looney Tunes library has been removed from the service as of today. Most likely my cancellation of MAX is overdue. (Not that most of us here need convincing, but this purge again confirms the need for physical media.)

It's also worth noting that these aren't exactly "11 lost masterpieces" - the two Clampetts, Coal Black and Tin Pan Alley Cats, are both excellent cartoons. The rest range from good (Clean Pastures, All This and Rabbit Stew), to some of the worst the studio ever produced (Angel Puss, Sunday Go to Meetin' Time, Jungle Jitters). And even some of the "unofficially banned" ones like Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips and Tokio Jokio are painfully unfunny. All bad as the racism is in All This and Rabbit Stew, it's at least got some great gags. That's really what I think puts these in an awkward position. Coal Black has some incredible animation, it's more raunchy than racist, actually has Black voice actors involved, and is a parody. Nobody is going to be able to make an argument that Angel Puss has any real artistic merit other than being yet another mediocre mid-40s Jones cartoon.

Weren't some of those primarily developed as promos for the war effort, rather than organically created by the studio's artists? That would make them kind of slap-dash and forced.

All the studios made wartime themed cartoons. Probably a bit of both as many artists were drafted (Norm McCabe for example, who directed several like The Ducktators and Tokio Jokio).

Among them, my favorite was 1941's The Fighting 69-1/2th (directed by Friz Freleng), with the ants. Ants and other pests would be a recurring theme in other Freleng cartoons such as "Porky's Pastry Pirates" (with Porky Pig, 1942), "Of Thee I Sting" (1946), "The Gay Anties" (1947) and "Ant Pasted" (with Elmer Fudd, 1953).

These are more necessary and than ever now that damned Zaslav has taken them off of Max. Sometimes, I wish I could understand corporate logic.

WB doesn't see the actual shorts as revenue, they'll make more of that through the characters in merchandise; that's how corporate logic works for them.
