Hard-luck gambler Dan Milner is in sudden luck. He’ll get $50,000 to hang out at a posh Mexican resort - $5,000 now and the big payoff when the gangsters making the offer don’t expect him to live long enough to collect. His Kind of Woman is a film noir fan’s kind of movie: dark, sassy, surprise-filled. Robert Mitchum plays Milner, who finds the romantic stakes raised when he meets a self-proclaimed heiress (Jane Russell in the role that launched her friendship with Mitchum). The mystery is twisted, the sets are astonishing, the cast is large and talented. But what makes this cult favorite stand apart is Vincent Price’s hilarious turn as a self-absorbed, gun-collecting Hollywood star. Mitchum gets the girl, but Price steals the movie.

The summary provided above is first class. This was directed by John Farrow who got so fed-up with Howard Hughes that he quit the movie. Richard Fleischer did extensive re-takes.

I love the idea of a 4K scan of the nitrate negative but I do hope this release will not reduce the chances of Macao, that other Robert Mitchum/Jane Russell pairing, also being released. My DVD of that one has gone bad and I want a Warner Archive Blu-ray disc!

I cant see one release spoiling another one. Macao is certainly possible! There have been a few Blu-ray releases from DVDs that have gone bad and went the route of DVDr releases via the WAC !

Very happy to see His Kind of Woman coming on Blu, among an extraordinarily strong selection of WAC titles this month!

Surprisingly, scenes from His Kind of Woman were skillfully integrated into a season three (1970-71) episode of the TV series Mod Squad, A Time of Hyacinths, an effective ghost story that featured His Kind of Woman's Vincent Price and Charles McGraw as guest stars again nearly 20 years later!

Great news that His Kind of Woman is coming. As it also features Charles McGraw, this is (another) plug for The Narrow Margin.

I also hope that Macao will be released on blu ray in due course (I slightly prefer it to His Kind of Woman), my DVD still plays and has the interview with Bob Mitchum and Jane Russell, which would hopefully be included on a future release. The only one of my Mitchum films that no longer plays is The Big Steal (with Jane Greer). This is on the same disc as Illegal, and would also be very welcome on blu ray, as would The Las Vegas Story.

Bob Mitchum at his RKO period best was really hard to get back in the days and I still got three or four of these on laserdisc.
It is a pleasure to see one after the other make their way to Blu-ray!
