Mama emigrated from Norway to early 20th century San Francisco, where she has devoted her life to her children, including Katrin, keeping her house in order and reigning in their offbeat relatives, friends and boarders in this family classic. Based on Kathryn Forbes' short story collection "Mama's Bank Account" and the play by John Van Druten.

Wonderful film. RKO sent a gorgeous 35mm print to the Carnegie Hall Cinema. Unfortunately, as they also did with It's a Wonderful Life, the prints were cut for reissue. But they really looked good. Of course I was disappointed...

I hadn’t watched this for years, so right around Mother’s Day, I bought the DVD. The picture was as dark and muddy as I remember it being when it aired on AMC.

Will happily upgrade on day 1!
I wonder if that dvd was another public domain release? Things got so dire, I actually saw "Mama" for sale at the 99 Cents store years ago. My vhs was a little murky but acceptable. A real Warners blu will be a revolutionary upgrade on anything I've seen.

It was the old Warner Home Video release.

I agree that this new transfer should be a revelation.

I also remember seeing this title among the skinny black cased $1 bin DVDs at the thrift store. With The Sabu Jungle Book, Shirley Temples The littlest Princess and Danny and Kayes The inspector General. All very sad old copies of PD sadness.
