Walmart B&M stores rolled out an interesting set items today. These appear to be multipacks with only 4K discs -- no Blurays, no digital copies and so far not available online.

http://brickseek.com/walmart-inventory-checker/ can check local stock if you don't feel like making a special trip. I'll add the other UPC when I find them,

Expendables 1 + 2 + 3 -- $22.96
UPC 031398265214

Divergent Series 1 + 2 + 3 -- $22.96
UPC 031398265207

Enders Game/The Last Witch Hunter/Gods of Egypt -- $22.96
UPC 031398265245

Also a 2 Film Bundle on the same Rack
Now You See Me 1 + 2 -- $17.96
UPC 031398265221

For folks that want to upgrade but have no need for another Bluray disc or Digital code this might be a nice supplement.

I saw that posted on Facebook, for those looking to add 4K in double dipping situations it is an interesting option.

What is Instawatch?
InstaWatch is a VUDU service that automatically sends you the digital copy of qualifying DVDs or Blu-ray Discs that you purchase at Walmart Stores and on Walmart.com.

How does it work?
Buying movies in Walmart stores: When you purchase a qualifying DVD or Blu-ray Disc in a Walmart store, make sure to submit your receipt to Savings Catcher by scanning it with the Walmart App. We'll then send you both a push notification and an email with instructions on how to get your digital copy. Follow the steps in the message and sign in with your Walmart.com account to start watching your InstaWatch digital copies.

Buying movies online at Walmart.com: When you purchase a qualifying DVD or Blu-ray Disc on Walmart.com we'll send you an email with instructions on how to get your digital copy. The email can take up to 24 hours to arrive. Follow the steps in the message and sign in with your Walmart.com account to start watching your InstaWatch digital copies.

I don't know much about Instawatch, but what is the benefit of watching a 4K film via that method?

None since the Digital copy usually is just the std HDX. I guess there is some hope that 4K copies might be added automatically at some point. Instawatch is exclusively VUDU with WM owns VUDU though I think most/all also port to UV so you can use other UV services, but not Itunes.

Most digital copies with 4K titles still only redeem HDX level, though some titles do give UHD copies is you redeem at VUDU or with some Sony's I think you have to redeem directly at Sony first. Lionsgate to date hasn't done UHD with any of their releases.

(Not knowing any better).

My first gut reaction is whether Lionsgate is accumulating too much unsold 4Kbluray inventory collecting dust in their distributors' warehouses ?

My first instinct was to look at the movie titles and thought it made sense.

Divergent went this route but it's no Hunger Games and they didn't even finish the expected finale b/c the last two were so disappointing critically and box office.

The Enders game set -- really only for the hard core with all 3 movies being pretty big busts. Even the reviews of the 4K haven't been that great for even the eye candy

The other sets have 1 good movie, 1 not so good movie and the 2nd Expendables movie is a toss up.

I'll probably get the Expendables and Now You See Me sets.
I just picked up those two sets when we were out this evening. Neither my wife nor I have seen any of these films, although I think I saw bits of the first "Now You See Me" movie on a cruise last year when flipping channels on the TV in our cabin.

Now I have to figure out how to redeem the UV codes via that InstaWatch setup. I have a Vudu account with UV films already, but no Walmart account.

You should just need to create a Walmart/Savings Catcher Account and link to your Vudu account name. For some reason I remember having to do it on a phone, but it might be possible to do online. It's easiest to use the same email address for both though if you already have independent accts you can link them. You can sign into VUDU with your Walmart account, but since you already have a VUDU probably teh easiest is just make hte UserName/PW the same

The last bullet point makes it sound pretty easy and if I can do it, pretty much anyone should be able to. The IW itself can be a bit spotty and sometimes things don't add automatically like they should or as quickly. I've had some show up in 10 minutes and some take a couple days. Luckily I've never had to call to force something to add.

So instawatch gives you a 1080p code regardless of studio?

Not sure in every case, but I followed the instructions in David's link and was able to redeem the UV codes via InstaWatch once I had downloaded the Walmart app, setup a Walmart.com account and scanned my receipt. All three Expendables films and both Now You See Me films show up as HDX (i.e. 1080p) in my Vudu library. In the past, the UV code for Jason Bourne originally showed up as HDX in my library, and later automatically upgraded to UHD once that version became available on Vudu. The only other film in my library that currently shows up as UHD is Lucy -- and I am not sure if it showed up that way immediately after redeeming the UV code or not.

The other films in my Vudu library that I own on UHD discs just show up as HDX versions -- La La Land, Labyrinth, Underworld, The Shallows and John Wick. Oddly, Underworld shows up twice with different cover art -- once on its own (via the code I redeemed from the UHD disc) and a second time in the Underworld Trilogy Bundle & Save along with the next two films (from the UV code I redeemed from the trilogy BD set).

All I can say is that the Ultraviolet system is a mess and confusing as hell to figure out.

I thought that Ender's Game was a good film, but Lionsgate's 4K UHD release is crippled by a major authoring error. The Blu-ray is fine, but the 4K disc has unnaturally elevated black levels. It's as if someone cranked the gamma up to 11, and it's pretty much unwatchable. I've attempted to contact Lionsgate FOUR TIMES about this problem to get their response, but have received no replies at all. IMO this release needs a recall and corrected discs should be provided to consumers who already own the disc. However, in light of their deafening silence on this issue I doubt it will ever happen. Buyer beware.

That I agree with... I got my Batman vs. Superman fixed and I now have UHD version. Just opened a ticket with Flixter and they fixed it for me with proof of purchase and a picture of the redemption card.

I miss just redeeming everything with Vudu and getting what I paid for. I need to figure out why my FandangoNow purchases have not flowed into the UV library and then to Vudu. I case it could be more licensing crap.

Weird I don't remember that but it has been awhile since I watch the 4K version. However, this review seems to agree with you. :) http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Enders-Game-4K-Blu-ray/147734/

As far as I'm aware -- IW so far has always given HDX/1080p copies, but so few studios have UHD Digital Codes at all yet so I'm not sure if that will continue into the future. Admittedly I've only done a dozen of less of them.

It will be interesting to see what happens once a studio that has UHD redeemable Digital codes on the normal VUDU site and is IW eligible. Lionsgate even with normal Digital copies like the full Expendables itme have redeemed only at 1080p. I;m not aware that they have had a UHD Digital yet.

It sure would be nice if Vudu would expand their UHD support for both studios and devices. Both the Samsung and Sony players do not support UHD on Vudu. Current studios providing UHD to Vudu on a mostly regular basis are Warner, Paramount, and Universal. Sony is hit and miss. Lionsgate and Fox are no-shows.
