The Criterion DVD is a real beauty. The transfer is gorgeous; the only thing lacking is anamorphic enhancement, bu the image looks excellent when zoomed-in on my set, unlike many other non-anamorphic transfers. The commentary is still one of the best I have ever heard: no gaps, no gratuitous back-slapping, just honest, insightful and often beautiful remarks about a truly magical and beautiful film.

ive just been informed that KINOWELT is producing it-they also did the first class 16:9 transfer of PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK (Picknick am Valentinstaag) so the news bodes well-I couldnt help myself and ordered it.

    The Criterion disc is awful.

OK, when it was released 7 years ago it was 'quite good' compared to VHS, but it's just a run of the mill laserdisc port.

There is no decent DVD of this film anywhere.

I mentioned elsewhere that Kinowelt are doing it -unfortunately- that's incorrect. 'MC One Classic' is the distributor.

It is listed as anamorphic. Here's hoping it is worth the bother.
