I am going to be using it only as a pre/pro with external amplification on all 7 channels.

The unit will be housed in an Elite component cabinet on the top fixed shelf. There will be 2" of clearance above the unit with 2½" on each side. The back is completely cut out and there is a glass door on front.

Will this be adequate air space for pre/pro use only?

Well I use my 49TX to only power the back rears and it still gets very hot after a few hours of use. I would probably recommend a bit more clearance or a cooling fan. The pioneer manual recommends 8" of clearance above the unit.

I agree with Rejeek mine powers my sides and rears and she gets pretty warm I have 8" of clearence with the back cut out and "No" glass on the front! My parasound 2205 sits on top but if you can you should put the 49tx up top. Just a thought;)
Good luck and enjoy that ultra 2:D
