The ballot can be stuffed if someone tries hard enough. I wonder if they look at the ratings on TCM when some of these films run. It seems like there are some movies that are run incessantly on TCM. Not sure if that means they are popular or TCM is just trying to fill out their schedule.
The Crowd (1928) The Informer (1935) Bachelor Mother (1939) Christmas in July (1940) Hail the Conquering Hero (1944) Phantom Lady (1944) Parade (1974) Dreamchild (1985) The Ox (1992) The White Balloon (1996)
It's a 1965 MGM film with a huge cast... Jonathan Winters, Robert Morse, Sir John Gielgud, Rod Steiger, Liberace, Milton Berle, etc. It's one of the funniest films from what I've heard... its tagline is "A movie to offend everybody".
Also, it's in Fox's area, but I also voted for Holy Matrimony. It stars Monty Wooley, Una O'Connor, and Franklin Pangborn... again, a hilarious film.
Have been trying to cast a vote for the marvellous (and under-rated) Ken Russell musical "The Boyfriend", but there is no mention if it anywhere on the TCM pages, not even in their Ken Russell "complete" filmography! Would love to see this complete and uncut on DVD - widescreen and stereo - lovely!
Thought I'd post to confirm some problems/glitches other HTF'rs have posted on:
I tried to vote for Pandora's Box Pabst (1929), but it is not listed! (yes I know about the R2 & the rumored CC release, I just wanted to vote for it!)
I do hope Turner will take DVD votes for films which are offered on VHS...I tried to vote for Brighton Rock Boulting (1947), but since TCM offers the film on VHS, could not.
That said, the biggest problem I've had is getting to the specific title I want to vote on...for example, I tried to vote for Les Miserables Boleslawski (1935) but this film is not one of the 18 that come up when the title is searched, you can get to it by searching the director field or Charles Laughton/Fredric March, or even Gregg Toland...so i was wondering if anyone else thought it would be a good idea to start a thread in the Studio Feedback area where you could follow Marco's excellent idea of posting links to specific films?
I voted for it, but I fully expect it to be released this year. Besides the R2 release John has already mentioned, a remake is supposedly due in theaters in July. Between TCM playing the movie recently and the desire to tie-in to a remake, I am counting on it.
I voted for some of director James Whale's non-horror films, none of which have ever been released to video, or broadcast in years.
JOURNEY'S END(1930) THE KISS BEFORE THE MIRROR(1933) ONE MORE RIVER(1934) REMEMBER LAST NIGHT?(1935)
All are excellent films, and have only been available in a very limited way through murky video transfers of old 16mm prints. I would love to see these released to DVD(though I won't hold my breath).
The Big Parade (1925) The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg (1927) The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) Red Hot Riding Hood (1943) Song of the South (1946) Help! (1965)
You're in the Army Now! Rancho Notorious Moonfleet Man Hunt (1941) Sargent York The Major and the Minor The Woman in the Window Ace in the Hole Secret Beyond the Door Human Desire (1954)
I believe this vote feature has been around for a while on the TCM website. Turns out most of the films I just tried voting for I'd already done previously. About a year ago if I remember correctly.
Also the new TCM database needs some serious work if they're trying to compete with IMDB as Duck, You Sucker or any of it's other aliases isn't listed in the database. It's not even listed under TCM's Sergio Leone filmography.
Couldn't vote for Fort Apache or The Black Swan due to the movies being available on VHS.
Anyhow here's what I'd voted for previously with a couple new additions.
Act of Violence Adventures of Don Juan African Queen, The Blue Dahlia, The Broken Arrow Comanche Station Dark of the Sun Dawn Patrol, The Desperate Doctor X El Cid Fall of the Roman Empire, The Fallen Idol, The Glass Key, The Gunfighter, The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Invisible Stripes Island of Lost Souls Lonely are the Brave Man of the West Matter of Life and Death, A Matthew Hopkins: Witchfinder General Ministry of Fear Naked Spur, The Phantom Lady Ride Lonesome Sea Wolf, The Tall T, The Tension Twins of Evil Westbound Woman in the Window Yakuza, The
I'm probably forgetting some that I voted for previously but there it is.
