I am not a reader of CONSUMER REPORTS so I am wondering how the other manufactures replied/responded to the article. If there were few responses, how did the mag single out VIZIO's sets.

CR singled out Hisense and Vizio. I think they had rated some Vizio sets highly on performance, but decided to remove their recommendation due to the results of their reliability survey. I don't know if any Hisense sets were similarly recommended. (The article in question is available online; CR generally only puts their actual ratings and reviews behind a paywall.)
