Anybody know how virtual surround sound works? I'm on my desktop, which has an old 2.1 speaker set up, but it is THX certified.
-Don't confuse THX certified to mean good sounding speakers.

I watched this video:
Dolby Virtual Surround

Virtual Surround Sound is a concept which uses spatializer codecs and reverb to create a fake 5.1 field from only two speakers.

I personally hate it. Nothing's better than three discrete channels in the front and two in the back.

Considering the 2.1 is on my desktop, it's not a huge deal. I was rather curious how it was done though.
Of course virtual surround, regardless of how well done, can't take the place of 5.1, let alone a full 11.2 Dolby Atmos setup.

All considered, it was a neat trick (youtube video), to have some rudimentary virtual surround going on my from 2.1 setup.
