Low on the learning curve so be easy on me.
When should I be using the "Virtual HD" on my Hitachi RPTV.
The manual says "press to toggle between 1080i and 540p" - lost me there too. Can someone explain that as well?
I did a search but still am lost.
My head is spinning:frowning:

Dermot,

Virtual HD is just Hitachi's way of saying "line doubler". Sony calls it DRC or Digital Reality Creation.

All it means is that the tv will convert incoming non-hd (hd being a scanrate of either 720p or 1080i) pictures to your choice of either 1080i or 540p.

So your regular tv sources will come into the set as 480 interlaced scanlines and be displayed as either 540 progressive lines or 1080 interlaced lines. It does the same thing with 480p coming in from a progressive scan dvd player. 1080i coming in from an HD receiver will be displayed natively, 720p from an HD receiver will be converted to 1080i.

Use whichever setting you prefer, there's no right or wrong choice.
