    Hey All,
I'm seriously thinking of importing the Futurama Complete sets. I missed SO many episodes due to Fox pre-emptions and just plain not showing the show during sports season. But will the PAL factor be a problem in viewing these things on a R1 DVD Player? I'll be installing a Code Free program very shortly if not [IMG]..
    Thanks!

unless you're viewing through a PC, PAL will be a problem unless you have an Apex, Daewoo etc (but the conversion will be bad). The Malata and that JVC model have great conversion.

    Actually Jeff,

The PAL to NTSC conversion for the Apex, Sampo, and Daewoos work fine if you are viewing 4:3 material on a 4:3 display. If you are trying to view 16:9 material on a 4:3 display, those players do not downconvert the image for proper presentation.

If you have a 16:9 TV, then this is not really a problem.

My Apex vertically squishes the image even on 4:3 material. Instead of removing lines, they just squish it down to fit in 480 lines

Thanks for the information. I thought all Apexs did PAL to NTSC perfectly for 4:3 materials.

Ted, your video card will take what's on your monitor and output either PAL or NTSC. It's real conversion

    Jeff,

What is the JVC model you mentioned? And can it be made multi-region?

    Thanks,
    -Dave

Yes, you can buy a pre-chipped version of the JVC. Check my Regional DVD FAQ in the Regional DVD area

Just a note, I have an Apex 3201 and for $59.99 at Circuit City, it plays R2 DVDs well enough for me and my 4:3 27" Toshiba. I know a better player would look better, but it would also cost more.

Jeff- I found a Beta FAQ (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...threadid=54238), but this listing for VCD reads: "2- JVC ??????". Is there another FAQ that I'm missing? Otherwise, any suggestions on stores that I could check? (the beta faq mentioned Snack Electronics, but I could not find a link).
I'm in the market for a new prog scan player, so if I can find one that plays multi-region & NTSC/PAL, that'd be a heckuva bonus. [IMG]
    Thanks,
    Dave
