Videogames in 480p (1 Viewer)

Is there any reason why a console shouldn't output a 480p signal? Would that cause a hit on system resources? I've only played a few Dreamcast games in VGA, and didn't see any performance hit there, would it be different on other consoles?

I guess there isnt really a huge market to make games in Progressive Scan 480... when VGA, almost everybody has a VGA-capable monitor.. damn, i have 4 sitting at home...
