    Hi,
I have a new Sony 60XS955. This represents a nice upgrade from my 8 year old Sony 61 inch CRT xbr set. The HD and DVD images are stunning. The analog channels are mediocre. The CRT was more forgiving by far.

I don't know much about line doublers or video processors but have heard that they could help me a lot with the image. (Is this true?)

I'd really appreciate learning what I'd need to buy, new or used, to accomplish this task. I think I could spend up to $1200.

    Appreciatively

All scalers are subject to Garbage In -- Garbage Out rule, but if the signal is OK and looks bad just to inefficiency of built-in scaler, something like iScan products (look here) might help.

I would not say a lot.
It makes a difference especially to the experienced eye. People who see combing and the chroma errors.
A 60 inch is fairly large and could easily warrant one.
If interested in a DVDO Iscan, Silicon Optix (HQV), or Faroudja give me a PM.
    Good luck.
