I was looking on ebay for a game and i found one that was a format 2: PAL(uk standard). Will this work here in the usa?

Generally, nope. What platform are we talking about? Most platforms have protection to prevent you from running European games, and additionally, you have the wrinkle of PAL games running in a different videoformat that most US TVs can't handle without an additional convertor.

oh sorry its for the xbox.

The XBox can handle converting PAL playback for a NTSC TV, but unfortunately the XBox is region protected to not let you play UK games on it.
