Video file splitting

    Who can recommend a good file splitting program (the free-er the better).
    I've got a utility that will split a video file (or any other for that matter) into sizes of my choice, but it doesn't retain it's file extention. The main file (#1) can be changed back to it's original file type, but the 2nd file can't. You have to rejoin the files before it can be used.
    I'd like one that will split the files into usable sections.

    You cannot just split a video file. There are several things that need to be taken into account, not the least of which are file header information as well as frame header information.
