Viacom buys Comedy Central stake from AOL

Viacom nows controls all of Comedy Central and is putting it under MTV Networks. It seems like the best thing for Comedy Central at this point, since Viacom has a strong strategy right now of synergizing its entertainment networks.

I bring this up in Software for a reason: I wonder what this means with South Park, and Comedy Central's other shows on DVD. Does this mean that Warner loses distribution rights on CC shows? Will Paramount take over? Does this mean we don't have to deal with anymore debacles like the one with the South Park 1st season commentaries? Will we get more DVD product like Strangers With Candy? I know things don't change overnight, but maybe changes are coming.

I won't be able to participate in the Warner chat tonight, so I hope somebody is able to bring this up, specifically if this means there will be any change to WHV's relationship with Comedy Central.

Well its not like Viacom and Warner collaborating on South Park is anything new, i.e. the South Park movie.

They may just work out a deal leaving Warner with the DVD release rights to south park, and have Paramount control the rights to the other CC properties. However, that's just speculation on my behalf.

I just hope someone starts to release the MAN SHOW in full seasons on DVD soon.... ya hear me Viacom!!!!

So I just read on IMDB.com that Viacom is also looking to buy the Sci-Fi Channel from Vendi/Universal. Hmm, am I the only one who sees what's happening here? Now which property did both Cable channels once own...

That's right!!! Viacom is not after South Park, rather Mystery Science Theater 3000!!! But why? What's the greater purpose?

Of course, I could just be reading into this too much. However, what if I'm not?!?

...

Anyone hear anything about NewsRadio coming to DVD?

If Paramount does release Comedy Central shows on DVD, it might be for the better.

Paramount is quickly getting into releasing television shows on DVD while Warner is still going a bit slow. I wouldn't mind season boxsets of The Man Show or Insomniac at all. :)

But what will happen to the planned DVD releases that Warner was going to put out this year and 2004 (which include CC's first movie, Porn N' Chicken, along with such shows as Primetime Glick and Strangers With Candy?

There was talk of "That's My Bush" getting a DVD release just in time for Election 2004. Hopefully, that will still happen.

Matt, I don't remember Warner's name being attached to those rumored releases. I remember hearing that "Comedy Central" was going to release them, so hopefully they're still on the schedule.

Dr. Katz & Upright Citizens Brigade are at the top of my Comedy Central DVD wishlist. I would also love to see Bob and Margaret on DVD.

I would love to see the shows mentioned above on DVD in season format.
