Yes, contrary to popular belief, some people actually retain their individuality when they get married.
Steve, buy her a nice box of wine to go along with that movie....

Look man,
Just tell her the truth. There's an error on ALL the Wonka discs that makes the sound pop and the picture go black every 10 seconds.

That'll do her!

You could just put black felt cut out to matte the image to 1.85:1 over the screen to show her how better the matted composition is. It'll work because the disc is OPEN MATTE, so it's not much of a difference than seeing it in a theater.
It's not like you're losing 30% of the image like a hard-matted 1.85:1.
You're losing RESOLUTION, but not image...
I think all DVD players should have a matte option (for 1.55:1 to 1.85:1) for the open matte discs.

Patrick,
Do you know for a fact that this movie is 100% just open-matte, with no loss of picture from the sides, and absolutely not a single frame p&s for effects purposes?

Yes, the movie is really open matte.
The 4:3 transfer on the old disc is reframed badly, so it may have mislead some (some?!)
You're still losing resolution though...

You've seen the new disc, and know for a fact that EVERY scene is just opened up? You've done a side-by-side comparison throughout the whole movie?
