There is also the DHT system that the good clients have. That communicates continuously too keeping abreast of who has what.

Anyway, this and other similar issues is part of the reason I took an old small form factor PC, put two network cards in it and then installed m0n0wall. Industrial strength firewall/router at bargain prices, and very easy to work with, just a normal web-based interface.
