Just wanted to Know if anyone owns a Velodyne series ll HGS sub?

What are the real world differences between the series l & ll?

I already own the series l 15' HGS and I am trying to decide if I should sell this sub to my

friend (for $1200) and purchase the series ll ($2300) or just keep it and buy another series l

at $1600. Either way I am looking to own 2 of these monsters. I just wanted to find out if

anybody knows if the differences are worth the extra $$$.

You'll gain more by buying another than selling what you have and just replacing it with the newer model. A pair of either series would be quite potent.

Oh, and mixing the series should be fine but stick with the same 15" models.

I use a pair of HGS-18's in my system. I have replaced both amplifiers with Series II models.

One of the original amps failed and the other had a very noisy servo circuit. They were both covered under warranty.

I understand they have made several modifications to the Series II amp.

The new amps are quieter but I have not noticed any performance gains in my system. Although I did not replace the drivers with Series II models.

I would suggest just adding another Series I HGS-15.

Ned..John...Thanks for the responses.

I constantly find myself upgrading my gear and I guess this was giving me an excuse to do it again, especially when my friend offered to buy my present sub. I could probably talk my dealer into a better deal for the seriesll but if there is no real difference then I will just stick with another seriesl.

John....is the new amp much quieter than the old one, or is the difference not that noticible? Have you heard anything positive about the new drivers?

Thanks!

Reece,
The most significant difference between the series I and II is noticeable only in the smaller HGS-10 and HGS-12 subs. They won't trip the overload circuits so easily and the amp is a little tougher to blow. On the HGS-15, I doubt you'll notice any difference.
BTW- My dealer friend will sell the new HGS-15 for about $1800 if you're looking for a better deal. Email me at [email protected] if you're interested.

If anyone is interested, I just got a SuperNova MKIV 15" and would be happy to bring it to Long Beach for a shootout.

All 93 pounds of it.

Could be interesting, since I'm in Los Angeles.

From Velodyne Product Support:
Velodyne has made over 30 modifications to the HGS Series amplifier over the last 4 years. All modifications were made to address noise issues.
Now that all modifications are complete they have labeled it Series II
The new driver composite material now has Kevlar added.
The units performance measures "exactly" the same.
If your HGS unit is performing satisfactorily there is no reason to upgrade to a Series II of the same model.

Thanks for the info John H.

I've had no complaints about the performance of my sub. It has performed admirably in the short space of time that I've owned it. Since I'm always changing my set-up my friends offer just fueled that desire to do it again. The huge difference in price did not seem worth it but Randy's offer makes it enticing.

John C., your offer of a "shootout" sounds interesting. As soon as I get situated I might have to take you up on that.

Thanks for all the input everyone!

Should we do any "trash talkin"? (Nah)
If I was a "real MAN" I'd also bring along the VMPS Larger Sub and we could really blow the doors off.
Anyone in Long Beach have an SVS that isn't shy?:b

Thanks Tom the link was great. One questions I had is that they said the SVS Ultra can be had in both a single and dual package but they didnt say which they ran the test with. Did they run these tests with a single SVS Ultra or a dual setup?
