I have an chance to pick up a first generation HGS-18 for $1200. It's a music-only system with some Klipsch Chorus IIs and a McIntosh MC352. The system is EQ'ed to +/- 2dB using a DBX Driverack. It's dead flat to 31.5hz in room, and I want something to fill in to 20hz that can keep up. Thoughts?

    That's a pretty good deal. I got a new HGS-12 in ~2000 for about $1200! :)

I'd inspect the driver and just make darn sure it looks perfect. Plus, there should be a date code on the back. Can see how old it really is. The HGS-18 should easily be flat to 20 Hz.

HGS-18 would be HT sub nervana for me. $1200 is still a pretty good ouch for one though. Post back how you like it once installed.

If you want dead flat +/- 2db, you will proably still need to eq the sub though. Just because that is extreme flat as you know.
