Kaj, sorry for the delayed response. As far as I know, nothing on hi-rez format. I'm sure you're aware of the Blade Runner 2disc SE slated for 2005 which will give us a DD score.

The only thing close would be Mobile Fidelity's Gold of Chariots of Fire. I've read that this wasn't all that terrific.

I added you to buddy list, if I hear something, I'll PM you.

I feel ya though. I would love to hear Opera Sauvage, China, Antartica and many others on hi-rez format. Until then there's always Pro Logic II [IMG]

I thought I saw a DVD "video" of his the last time I was browsing the huge selection at Fry's. Not hi-res but maybe DD. And it would be a live performance too of course.

Yeah Gene, I thought about posting that(Isn't Kaj in a different region?). The DD 5.1 mix isn't very good. It sounds much better on PLII. You are correct though.

BTW Kaj, Gene is eluding to the Vangelis: Mythodea/Nasa Mission DVD I believe. Available here on Region 1

i'll check it out [IMG] thanks
Though it has been my experiance that concerts don't live up to the studio recordings.
I just thought that if they have things like Pink Floyd and Mike Oldfield etc. they may have something on Vangelis, because they would make some great Hi-res surround music. Well i think so anyway.

    thanks for the info [IMG]

    cheers

This is mostly true but there are a few diamonds in the rough. And if it's the only option it may have been worth a chance if Zen hadn't given the DD mix a thumbs down. Oh well, we tried!

Speaking of Vangelis, his latest work is coming out October 19 - the score of Oliver Stone's Alexander. A 3-minutes sample is here (what I guess is the Main Titles):

Don't get me wrong Gene, any true fan of Vangelis should own a copy. Trust me, I'm a rookie when it comes to music in 5.1 and my ears still have occassional problems with it. I would give the dvd a [IMG] and think any fan would enjoy it.

That's great. DVD concerts usually aren't as good as well mixed DVD-A's or SACD's but if that's all there is...better than nuthin' [IMG] .

Warner[at least here in the US] has tremendous opportunity to release Vangelis's works on the DVD-A format, naturally they will miss it,and we'll miss out.[IMG]

Yes it is very annoying, because looking at people like

    America
    Eagles
    Mike Oldfield etc.
    Pink Floyd
    Elvis
    Queen

They can obviously remix and remaster the music we like so much from long ago [IMG] I just wonder why they don't do it, won't it sell? Does it cost too much money?
But as I said, Vangelis would be awesome in high resolution, surround sound if done properly, it's not like nobody has heard of their works [IMG]

    Anyways

Yes, you would think with Oldfield out, we would get at least a few of his titles. I assume, his Academy Award winning score (Chariots of Fire) would get first treatment. I have already mentioned some titles I would love to see on hi-rez, but I must add the absolutely beautiful 1997 Oceanic and another 90's favorite 1492: Conquest of Paradise

Pretty promising score snippet available now at

    Alexander Soundtrack

    Release Date: 10/19/2004
