When the moon rises (esp. a full moon) it can look huge when it is near the horizon. I think it's more a perception or illusion thing, it's the same size in the middle of the sky but there's nothing nearby to compare it to, so it seems smaller.

Vancouver? You could see the moon? You mean the clouds and rain have gone away? That's a bigger event than the moon any day!!

Yes, since Vancouverites saw the moon this winter then perhaps no new records of continuous cloudy/precipitation days will be set [IMG]

Michael, is Edmonton -30 Celsius yet? Are the northern lights out yet? I loved watching those growing up. So surreal.

But I thought the moon was blasted out of earth's orbit (by nuclear explosion) on September 13, 1999?

I should have wrote in my earlier post that yes, I noticed the moon seeming extra large even for being low in the horizon that day NickSo saw it. Probably because it was very white and bright instead of a red or orange.

I noticed the same thing on holidays in Kamloops. btw no snow here in Calgary - that's something to cheer about! damn cold though

is this a canadians only thread? and who else thinks that Jeff Ulmer is crazy. Wearing shorts and gardening when it's -12 degrees outside?? strange.

Um, I never said it was -12. That would be crazy. Unless it was rolling around in the snow. [IMG]
