I watched this movie on DVD last week. I finally put up the review.

    http://enterline2.tripod.com/enterline/id130.html

So who is looking foward to buy or rent this Hong kong vampire movie? Who will think it will be just a rental after reading my review? Are there any other reviews of this DVD anywhere? I do cover a little bit about what I read about the Hong Kong release of the movie. There is a sequel being filmed.

Jackie Chan appearing in two scenes of this movie is just a way of getting people to buy the DVD, but his face on the bottom of the DVD cover seems so out of place with the rest of the cover art.

I must say I really liked the film. BUT I recommend NOT purchasing the R1 release besides a title change (The Twins Effect) it, like so many other Asian films, is cut bu 20+ minutes.

I'd recommend importing it from a site like DDDhouse.com. It's R0 and cheaper than R1!

I have heard of problems with the R0 disc (from Universe) that has caused several different DVD players to lock up.

Due to 20 minutes being cut for the US release, I could only recommend this as a rental. I'm glad one of my favorite Asian Horror movies (DOUBLE VISION) wasn't edited too badly (only 4 minutes of Gore (unrated version released in Hong Kong as the director's cut months after the movie came out) to make sure it was R rated- not a big lose since the movie does have some good gore in it anyway). I love DOUBLE VISION better than THE EYE.

I was thinking of ordering this too, but then I also noticed the 88 min running time. Maybe I'll pick up the R0 instead.

Haven't seen Double Vision, I'll have to track it down.

As for the R0, I haven't had any problems with it. Fun movie too!

Chris, here is the link to my review of the DOUBLE VISION DVD (if you want to read it):

    http://enterline2.tripod.com/enterline/id94.html

I bought the DVD new off eBay for less than half the price (after unfortunately being ripped off by someone else trying to get the same DVD around the same price weeks before that). I am glad I tracked it down despite the trouble.

David, thanks for the link, as soon as I say that David Morse was in it, I remembered seeing it at BB a while back, now I have something else to check out.[IMG]

So is the unrated version of Double Vision R0 or R3?

    Thanks.

Tom, the unrated cut is available in many countires in many regions (R0, R2. R3). You don't get anytthing new added to the movie with the four extra minutes of gore to a scene. The movie has some gore as is for the R version.

^ oh, I meant the Columbia HK release. Is it R0 or R3?

So all four extra minutes go to that same scene (I've seen the R1 version, so I think I know which scene you guys are talking about). That's quite a lot of gore for a scene isn't it?

I think the unrated version in Hong Kong is R3.

I see DVD Debate has a review of the VAMPIRE EFFECT DVD.

By the way, DOUBLE VISION is going down in price to 19.99 on 7/6.

Anyone, rent the VAMPIRE EFFECT DVD?

Never rented it, I have the full version called Twins Effect, never say the need to get the chopped one, although I am curious to hear someone comment on the transfer. DOuble Vision is one I've been wanting to see.

Chris, I do have comments about the transfer in my DVD review of Vampire Effect. I should buy the Twins Effect one of these days and compare the transfers.
