Check out the this url (I can't post url's yet, so I'll try to post something):

www (dot) speakerbuilder (dot) net

Look on the left hand side under articles, there is a very good explanation of how to assemble (not design) a crossover.

There's something about DIY I don't get. A loudspeaker manufacturer has lots of $$$. Say, for example, B&W. They can afford to invest large amounts of money in order to build tapered tweeters, or the like. Energy had access to Canada's laboratories to develop their own line. Those two examples have devoted far too much time and money to develop lots of innovations...

Can a DIY speaker really beat those two giants in their own game? I can understand using better quality parts, but wouldn't the "big guys" hold an advantage with their R&D?

Perhaps,
1. You don't work for a multi-layered bogged down in red tape corporation.
2. DIYers can take published articles and use that info in designs for free.
3. DIYers aren't restricted by marketing concerns that may lead to design compromises dealing with pure asthetics.
4. We don't have to try to sell our products and compensate others for R&D, sales, marketing, accounting, legal costs, IT departments, human resource specialists, etc., before getting to covering the cost of materials and construction.
5. Someone in the DIY community may tear down a product to see how it ticks and then share the info.

Considering all of that, it's surprising some companies can produce a good product at as low a price as they sell for.
