Does anyone use their pre/pro as a dac for a transport only cd or dvd player what model pre/pro do you use and what do you think of the results.

I'm using my Tag AV32R as my DAC for all my external sources, from HTPC to CD player, whenever possible. Sounds great to me.

I use my Lexicon MC-12 as DAC for all digital sources as well, with excellent results... although the internal DACs in my Sony 9000ES CD/DVD are suprisingly good on their own. I wouldn't want to wager anything on a DBT comparison of the two...

I have used both a Levinson #36, Proceed AVP and
now a Proceed AVP2. I preferred the #36 over the AVP
but the new AVP2 is definitely awesome. Noticably
better than the original AVP and I'd say better than
    the #36 as well.

I too also use my Pre/Pro's DACs for all digital sources, HTPC, HDTV, & CD/DVD. The Acurus ACT-3 (Upgraded) has excellent DACs and is a huge improvement over my analog out of my DVD/CDP.
