Using Linux as a HTPC (1 Viewer)

I was just wondering if anyone has experience of using Linux as a base for a HTPC setup and how they have got on with this environment?

I don't know about today.


Back in the day circa early-2000s, I briefly used Linux to watch dvds, It was a matter of putting together several programs (which won't be mentioned here).


These days, I have no idea which modern viewing programs run native on Linux (ie. besides VLC).


Bluray would required a lot of elbow grease to work minimally on Linux, without using a virtualmachine or emulator. Though dvd would probably be fine, unless you're into burning a lot of discs.

I have used Ubuntu successfully - installed Plex and Kodi - both worked fine.

I have been thinking about imaging a 10 plus year old PC that I assembled with this same setup - what type of HW are you using for this?
