I keep reading messages about people saying that internal test tones are useless for calibration, that we should use AVIA or VE (Too expensive for me) instead. Is it that they are not balanced? Or is it just that they are not proper -30db signals needed to calibrate to 75db to get the 105db reference level?. If it's the latter, I don't mind since I live in an appartment, I just want them the same level.

I'm wondering the same thing. I've heard it's better to use AVIA because it will be coming from the DD/DTS source. But what about when i'm not watching a dvd and i'm using 5 channel stereo?
