I currently have some classrooms that I support equipped with an SP Control classroom system, the system includes a VCR mounted into a box on the wall. The VCR is sideways - we have had many requests to add DVD playback as well.

I was wondering if anyone knows if it is bad for a DVD player (only getting light to moderate use, maybe 4 hrs/week 30 weeks/year) to run sideways? Are there any models that are designed to work sideways (other than the PlayStation 2)

Philips has (or at least had recently - I have not kept up) a model designed for vertical placement. Was not terribly expensive. I'll see if I can find a link.

Awesome, I am going to keep looking bcause we probably need a combo unit. Maybe we'll just experiment with putting one sideways and see how it does.

    Thanks for the help!

Generally, the players don't hold discs well sideways.

We have mounted Pioneer industrial players sideways - after the disc has been loaded - but then we don't change the disc for months or years at a time.

The Sony Playstation 2 is meant to go sideways as well. It all depends on the tray. Some can't hold a disc sideways.
