Probably not directly from Universal, as they haven't supported the Blu-ray 3D format in some time. They have licensed some of their films to Germany's Turbine label, sometime after the 2D versions had already been out, so there is a chance it could come from there. But I don't think anyone can say with any certainty at this point whether or not that will happen.

I agree. My best guess is it will be available overseas.

I saw it in 3D. The conversion was fine, but despite being a HUGE 3D fan, I will probably opt for the 4K for this title if I had a choice of ne or the other.

All the promotional materials, including the movie posters, leave off the “Part 1”. Obviously Universal has decided that emphasizing that the story isn’t complete will negatively affect the box office.

My kids insisted I take them to see Wicked this weekend. They were well aware it was Part 1, but as the "To Be Continued" came on screen at the end, another kid in a row somewhere ahead of us in the audience yelped out, "WHAAATT??!!," hilariously.

I had a similar reaction to the cliffhanger ending of Dune: Part Two, along the lines of "If they expect me to sit through three more hours of this nonsense, no thank you!"

Yeah, if I'd been a kid when that flashed across the screen after two and a half goddamn hours, I'd have had the same reaction. As an adult, I'm fed up with these obvious cash-grab multi-part flicks. On video, no problem -- we view at our own leisure. But when I spend twelve bucks to sit through twenty minutes of ads followed by fifteen minutes of previews and, finally, a very length movie that could have achieved its entire plot in one three hour film (aka THE HOBBIT) with some judicial editing instead of making me wait six months to a year to go back and see the story play out, I GET PISSED OFF. This is not the same as having sequels, like the Pixar movies. This is about not wrapping shit up at the end of a lengthy watch.

I suppose this trend is a good marketing trend for Hollywood. The vast majority of viewers who invest in Part 1 will most likely return for Part 2. I get it. But WICKED is not LORD OF THE RINGS, for God's sake. I imagine some jerks in the industry regret not breaking up CONCLAVE into two or three parts!

Yeah, I feel that. I never saw the stage show, but there's a lot of filler and fluff in the Wicked movie that could have used cutting, including a lengthy song number I'm pretty sure was newly created just to give Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel an excuse to cameo.

The other funny thing is, taking it as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, where Part 1 ends works perfectly fine and I frankly don't feel any need for another three hours of this.

By splitting the adaption of the beloved play by Stephen Schwartz,Winnie Holzman and Gregory Maguire into two parts, this one often feels like exposition: “Young Wicked Witch” as it were. The Shiz University scenes have more than a touch of Harry Potter and Mean Girls in them, complete with Michelle Yeoh as the sorceress Dean Madame Morrible.

Director John Chu oversees the handsome, if not quite spectacular production. The cast has energy. Cynthia Erivo is very good as the title character, bringing dramatic heft to the role. Ariana Grande uses her self-absorbed Pop Diva persona quite well here. Jonathan Bailey is fine as the Prince. Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum (in all his Goldblum-iness) as the Wizard add their weight to the movie.

The screenplay by Holzman and Dana Fox is better at keeping as much of the play as possible (at least the first half of it) than in truly successfully making it a stand alone motion picture. There are some effective passages, but it feels long for what is - for all intents and purposes - an introduction piece; Not to mention that just as things get interesting – it ends.

WICKED is enjoyable lite entertainment, but the final verdict shall have to wait until Part Deux.

For that price point, I might as well wait another five weeks for the 4K/UHD release at the same MSRP on February 4th.
I think the price point will have dropped a few times before the actual disc is released. I’ve noticed titles get to $9.99 before the disc is actually released.
I will be getting my SAG streamer not long after the nominations are announced on January 5th.

Due to the music in this film , I rather have the 4K disc with the full capacity of the Dolby Atmos soundtrack than the compressed digital audio track with my 9.2.4 Atmos setup. Furthermore, I will get a digital code for that compromised 4K digital. I will have the disc prior to the Oscars.

Alas, in my experience SAG screeners are almost always subpar transfers. I've yet to see a SAG screener that compares to the real thing, transferred with tender loving care. Since I've seen it theatrically, I'll just give it (the screener) a deep scratch and toss it in the garbage. And before anyone suggests giving it to a friend or family member, that would be unethical and against SAG rules.

I prefer the streamers. The quality is much better than the discs.
