Okay, I will be that guy...I don't like the artwork chosen for the standard release at all...it looks like a fan-made PhotoShop cut and paste job.

I wish they had chosen the image of Glinda and Elphaba reaching out to each other. It's dramatic and gorgeous.

I wonder if it will make it to Peacock before the disc comes out. My guess is it will depend on the length of run in the theaters and whether or not it gets Oscar Nominations.

I agree it will get a digital release before Peacock. But I wonder if that will even happen if its up for significant Oscars (best pic, best director) etc. Can't recall when Oppenheimer made it to digital / disc w/ respect to Oscars.

As of now, they're predicting Wicked will have a 120 million opening weekend followed by Gladiator 2 with a 63 million weekend. Wicked has a huge potential for repeat viewers so my (uneducated) guess is that Universal won't kill the goose that's laying that golden egg in theatres too soon. It will play well through the Holiday seasons (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years) so I wouldn't expect it to make it to Peacock till February ..... at least. But hey, what do I know?

Opppenheimer can’t be considered precedent because that film’s director had it written into the contract that it could not be put on streaming before it was on physical media - a stance no studio would otherwise agree to in today’s home media landscape.

This will probably follow the same trajectory other Universal films do - theatrical first, then PVOD streaming ($30 digital purchase/$25 rental), and then subscription streaming on or around the same date as physical media and standard digital purchase/rental pricing.

Normally for Universal, films that open less than $50 million begin their movement to PVOD after 17 days. For films that exceed $50 million on opening weekend, that window can increase to 45 days, but is usually somewhere in the middle - once the theatrical grosses go into decline they make the move. The one wrinkle here is that a theatrical “sing along version” is coming on December 25th. We don’t yet know if this will affect the PVOD timing.

I understand that not everyone here has been following the streaming/home video landscape as closely as others but that above pattern is now industry standard for virtually all new releases. There’s no reason to expect Wicked or any other individual film to deviate from it unless a specific variation has been announced.

All the promotional materials, including the movie posters, leave off the “Part 1”. Obviously Universal has decided that emphasizing that the story isn’t complete will negatively affect the box office.

Probably not directly from Universal, as they haven't supported the Blu-ray 3D format in some time. They have licensed some of their films to Germany's Turbine label, sometime after the 2D versions had already been out, so there is a chance it could come from there. But I don't think anyone can say with any certainty at this point whether or not that will happen.
