The two newest additions to the phenomenally popular Best of "Saturday Night Live" series feature performances by one of the show's best-loved cast members and a collection of hilarious lampoons of well-known commercials. SNL's trademark pop-culture spoofs have had audiences in stitches from the show's earliest days. Now, "Saturday Night Live": The Best of Commercial Parodies brings back cherished Madison Avenue send ups such as "Little Chocolate Donuts," "Mom Jeans," "Happy Fun Ball"' and "Colon Blow." Hosted by SNL alum Will Ferrell, the DVD includes a who's who of past and present SNL cast members including John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, Eddie Murphy and Phil Hartman with added star-power from Ashton Kutcher, Donald Trump, Sam Waterston, Queen Latifah, Kelly Ripa and United States Senator John McCain.

    >>From her first appearance on SNL in 1995 until she departed the show in 2000, Cheri Oteri's delightfully demented signature characters, ranging from a hopelessly uncool klutz of a cheerleader (with partner Will Ferrell) to a power-addled reinvention of television jurist Judge Judy, made her a favorite with fans. An Emmy( nominee for her work on "Just Shoot Me," Oteri has a thriving feature film career with outstanding performances in comedy classics like Liar, Liar and Scary Movie. "Saturday Night Live": The Best of Cheri Oteri includes appearances by A-list talent including Cameron Diaz, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Tobey Maguire, Britney Spears and more.

Since its debut in 1975, SNL has been the gold standard for edgy, irreverent comedy on television, showcasing some of the brightest comedic lights in the last 30 years. Created by multiple-Emmy( winner Lorne Michaels, who also serves as executive producer and writer, the program has won 18 Emmy( Awards and been nominated for more than 80, as well as winning the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award. I saw the "Commercial Parodies" special hosted by Will Ferrell late last year and frankly I wasn't too impressed with the some of the material that was chosen. I've seen previous "Commercial Parodies" specials which were much better than this one. The one (which I believe was the first) hosted by Kevin Nealon stands out as one of the best. I wish they'd stop porting these specials straight to DVD, and instead make a collection consisting of the BEST material, rather than the material used for this particular incarnation. or even compile each commercial spoof from EACH special.

But knowing what to expect with this one, I'll definitely pass.

I thought the last commercial parody special was weak, too (the hosting segment was pretty old and unfunny, too). It was mostly commercials from the last few years - very few classics.
